Fermentation Jar from Counter Culture Pottery

• $195

Here's a lavish gift for the cook who's really into fermenting: a handmade fermentation crock from the San Francisco-based Counter Culture Pottery. These beautiful crocks occupy a rare overlap of function, beauty, and heirloom. Some more details about the design: "These crocks feature an unusual lid design first seen in ancient China. The lid rests in a well of water, creating a “water seal” while the vegetables ferment. This streamlines the fermentation process, sealing the contents of the jar from outside oxygen so that mold or debris cannot contaminate the fermenting foods." Holds 1.5 gallons.
