Looking for something new to perk up your commute? We've got the perfect solution: Molly Wizenberg and Matthew Amster-Burton's delicious new podcast project! It's called Spilled Milk, and the show will make you laugh out loud AND make you hungry!
Each podcast - six so far, with a seventh on the way - covers a different topic in one twenty-minute segment. In other words, a perfect bite-sized podcast! So far they've covered eggs, squash, milkshakes, romantic food, braising, junk food, and corned beef, and we can't wait to see what they tackle next.
Molly and Matthew make a great team. The two veteran food bloggers take turns sharing their ideas, perspectives, and personal stories as they move from picking ingredients for the day's dish to eating the results. The shows are mostly scripted, but of course, it's the off-script moments of witty banter that will make you laugh involuntarily on the bus to work.
You can listen or download the shows straight from the Spilled Milk website or subscribe to the podcast through iTunes:

i am seriously IN LOVE with this podcast. i discovered the gem last week, and have systematically listened my way through all 6 episodes. in between the moments of tear-inducing laughter, i actually gleaned quite a few useful tips and ideas from this foodie pairing.
i am left desperate for more-- a sure sign that something is fabulous. i highly suggest you listen. and fast!
I listened to the winter squash one, but in truth I have trouble with food podcasts that don't give me pictures. I'm very visual when it comes to my food, and combined with the fact that I tend to tune in and out of podcasts, it makes it hard to get anything out of shows like this. If they had a video component I'd probably be all over it.
I listened to the first one, but wasn't exactly inspired to download the second when it came out. Maybe I'll give it a second chance.
After I listened to the first 2, I couldn't go back for more. And let me say, I am a huge fan of Molly's. I have read her blog forever, was so excited when she got her book deal, got married, opened her restaurant etc. I was looking forward to the podcast but the first 2 felt very rambling like they were fun to make, but not so much to listen in on. I will check the rest now to see if they have polished it up. I listen to the Splendid Table, NPR Food podcast and others so maybe I am used to a more focused conversation?
I can't decide if I like Spilled Milk enough to stick with it. The production value is, well, not great, which makes a big deal when there are so many other, better produced podcasts out there.
I'm with charlita and BetterBombshell on the content as well - while I enjoy the feeling of spontanaeity, the extras they include at the end of the podcasts makes it clear that it's scripted or rehearsed - and if that's the case, they should be able to stay on topic. The worst offender was the Valentine episode, which was very funny but didn't actually present any recipes and relied very heavily on content read from Wikipedia. I really expected more.
I do feel like the most recent shows have gotten a bit tighter and more refined. I think I'll stick with it to see how the show evolves.
For some reason I like it. I agree with many people's comments that it isn't very structured but I enjoy hearing it. I think they give enough information that I feel full. I'm going to keep listening and I think that they are progressing and changing. I want to see where it goes.
