We had to giggle at this diagram of the uniform worn by every farmers market-going woman in Southern California (and most of the rest of the country too, we think). Spot on!

Farmer Market Uniform. True for DC too!!
Thank you for linking to my farmers market uniform!
Farmer's Market Uniform: classic!
That outfit pretty much true for any Whole Foods I've walked in, add a cell phone they're on, overly stuffed shopping car they're running into you with their baby sitting in it and some designer purse.
I think you need to add a baby stroller to the uniform too...it seems that half the people at the farmer's market have a stroller or baby snuggie. I have to say, the farmers market I go to has a sign prohibiting dogs and I think it's starting to be enforced. I'm seeing a lot fewer canine companions.
I prefer to opt for a more 'classic hippie' look and usually have a giant tote bag, a wrap skirt and clogs... Giant sunglasses to, naturally.
wait......dogs? none of the farmer's markets near me in norcal allow dogs!
@jmorri26 - agreed! But it also depends on the time of day. After work hours I see the Yuppie business crowd running though emailing as they stand in line for their overpriced food.
no dogs allowed at the santa monica farmer's market!
i saw someone at a farmer's market in philly (which is tiny and crowded) with his mastiff. that dog was bigger than half the people shopping there.
No dogs in Orange County farmers markets. :(
SD farmers markets don't seem to have a ban on dogs, which only bothers me when they seem to be running amuck. But, sadly, as my boyfriend pointed out, we both fall into the stereotype of the FM Uniform.....
hahaha--oh no! I'm probably going to start noticing this all the time at the SD FM I go to every week. For the record, the only part of the uniform I sport is a pair of sunglasses.
No dogs at my market. But add baby in ergo, sticky faced toddler, roving bands of ill mannered children and parents stealing too many samples, a few panhandlers, fringe baked goods, and a creepy balloon guy and you have it peged.
