I'm very much of the mind that you're never too old to celebrate your birthday. If you happen to have a fall birthday, you get to choose from classic cakes like Chocolate and Vanilla, but you can also reach for more seasonal favorites.
Growing up, my sisters and I always had my mom's famous chocolate potato cake which I've mentioned on The Kitchn before. Because we're all such traditionalists, we still request this cake, birthday or not, when we visit home. And we make it often around our own houses and apartments.
