We're a little obsessive about getting every last bit out of a jar of peanut butter. Usually this means scraping it with a good spatula or simply eating it with a spoon, but last night we came up with a new idea…
Faced with the last dregs of peanut butter and a pan of steamed vegetables on the stove, we got inspired. We poured some coconut milk plus rice vinegar, soy sauce, maple syrup, and crushed garlic directly into the jar, shook it vigorously, and voilà: peanut dressing! It was scrumptious, fast, and frugal.
How about you? Do you eat every last bit ... or leave that to the dog?

I make some overnights oats in the empty jar so I can get the last bits of all the peanut butter.
You can't let that precious goodness go to waste. ;)
Nearly empty peanut butter jars are my beagle's very favorite toy. My friends save them for us! Her tongue is just *this* much too short to get the very bottom, so she'll work on them for hours!
I do the exact same thing! My little beagle gets every last bit out of there :)
Oh my gosh that looks just like my dog! Who would be SO happy if we'd let her lick out the peanut butter jar...
We don't eat much peanut butter so we go through a jar very slowly--most of the time the oil gets rancid-smelling before we're even close to done so I end up trashing it. :( But I had the same thought of creating peanut dressing. I usually start with a little hot water to thin it down, which would probably also help get every last drop off the jar.
It's definitely a treat for the dog. There's nothing better than watching the joy it gives her, except perhaps, watching her walk around the house with it on her snout while she figures out where she'll dive in to this bounty.
I make a peanut and chili dressing to go with salads or spring rolls.... just shake everything up in the jar.
Always oats in a jar!
Ours goes to our white lab! She loves licking that jar clean and we love giving it to her.
I tried the oats in a jar thing but the combination of oats and peanut butter just sit like a rock in my stomach.
It goes to the puppy. She'll spend a good hour working on getting all the peanut butter out, then she'll start to kick and chase the empty jar around the kitchen floor, so it's a treat AND a toy :-)
Similar to allebasil. Nuke the last little bit and add chili sauce and such to make my version of Indonesian peanut dipping sauce. Store in the jar in the fridge. Saves messing up another container.
i eat my breakfast out of the jar to scrape the last bits, but hot oatmeal should only be eaten out of glass containers, since it can warp the plastic ones (for those, i just eat yogurt/museli)
here's my recipe for microwave oats in a jar:

aww...this totally brought back memories of my aunt's old dog licking out containers while I visited. :) :)
And I honestly never thought about adding TO the jar to make a sauce (as I sit here eating a PB&J), but I will definitely try that now!
Overnight oats in a jar, for sure!! :)
Awww, it never would occur to me to give it to the dog.
I like the dressing idea, its similar to what I do with the last of the honey in a jar - make tea, pour some in the jar and shake it up. There's often just enough sticking to the sides to perfectly sweeten a small pot.
I make peanut-sesame dressing, too, though I use an immersion blender to grind up the chunky peanuts and a handful of sesame seeds along with all the other ingredients: sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, etc.
My immersion blender fits perfectly in the PB jar, so I can get the sauce thick and creamy without any back-spatter. I save the clean glass jars and use them any time I'm making a small batch of something --- dressing, sauce, a smoothie --- because they're so suited to the task. And when I'm done, I can put a lid on and store the leftovers!
This is something Martha Stewart would do! I know she does this with mustard.
Zoe and Bear get it! Bear works on it first, then Zoe of the smaller snout and longer tongue gets it. They love to share. ;>
I never thought of giving it to my pooch! Great idea, although she would probably chew the container to pieces...
Great ideas all around! Especially the oats and dressing!
My dog loves this too! But she has her own jar of unsalted peanut butter...my own almost empty peanut butter jar--I add hoisin sauce, a bit of water, and some sesame oil.
I do that too! Cute.
This is an unparalleled technological advancement in peanut butter studies that solves a genuine problem of mine. It's also a great excuse to make peanut dressing.

eat your morning oatmeal out of the jar!
Definitely hot oatmeal! You get all those lovely blobs of peanut butter in every hot mouthful...I actually get excited for oats in a jar every time my peanut or almond butter dwindles!
Wow, I love the oats idea!
I cut up some chicken breasts, or use tenders, add a little olive oil and a chopped scallion, shake it up and let it sit all day in the fridge. Then I saute the chicken. You can add a little heat while it's cooking to give it the spicy Thai peanut flavor.
But if I had a dog, I'd have to let him finish it for me.
i use it to make a peanut sauce in the jar. Then throw in about a serving of pasta and shake it around so the pasta is well coated and pour it out.
My Dutch boyfriend says it is common for Dutch households to have a scraper for this exact problem--sort of like a half-moon spatula with the handle attached at a 90% angle to the blade.
I'd rather have a puppy.
I can't remember the last time I finished a jar of peanut butter! Someone else in my two-person-household must be taking care of that.
This article is funny, can't believe how obsessed we all are with this. And as a non dog owner, I would have thought that peanut butter was bad for dogs. Well, you learn something new every day!
I hate getting the part around the rim all over my fingers, but then, I haven't been using a spatula!LOL
I just threw out a jar yesterday after trying to get the last remnants out with a spoon.
REALLY wish I'd kept it for oats.
The dog is the winner every time. Any container with dog-friendly food will get licked clean :) It saves water - so it's green, right ;)
