Ah!.. Maybe it's this fresh spring weather, but there's not much better than the long rays of the new day's sun stretching out across the kitchen each morning. Let's check out these lucky-duck kitchens that face east - perfect for greeting the sun over breakfast:
Which way does your kitchen face? If you were starting from scratch, would you make sure it got a little eastern exposure?

We are lucky to have a kitchen with big windows on the east and south sides; the light is beautiful all day long. Of course, it is helped by the honey tones of the original 1929 cabinets, still sporting their shellac finish.
all the windows in my apartment face north. i get sun shining through them for a couple hours a day, max :(
Our kitchen windows face north, and into a cubby where the back stairwell goes down to the trash, but we get a lot of lovely indirect light all day, which all my potted ferns seem to really enjoy.
The trade off here are south facing windows in the living/dining and bedrooms.
I am so jealous. My kitchen especially is always dark. I've been thinking about some sky lights - but they're so expensive. Maybe thekitchn could source some ideas for inexpensive sky lights or ways to bring in more natural light...
Ours has southern and western exposures. We don't spend much time in the kitchen in the morning, so it's nice to have the western sun in the afternoon.
I have a full wall of glass doors/windows that run the width of my condo's kitchen, which faces east. I must say it's a little much on a super sunny day, even with the shades pulled. So much so that sometimes I want to wear sunglasses at breakfast!
My kitchen faces S x SE, but there are big windows everywhere in my house so it's always brightly lit. Good in the winter, not so good in the summer.
I wouldn't want East windows, I don't think.
Our house is fitted with these huge, almost floor to ceiling windows from the old railroad depot. (Real windows, with the weights and pulleys and everything. The smaller top panels drop down, which is great this time of year.) They are south facing, and perfect.
My kitchen faces North unfortunately. But I don't think East would be a good option for me, waste of sunshine as we usually don't do breakfast at weekdays and sleep late on weekends.
We have a smaller east facing window in our kitchen and a sunroom attached to our kitchen. I love the morning sun. It wakes the whole house up and even on snowy days it has a warm feeling.
Very cute, that pink kitchen is so sexy! I'm torn but I'll continue with my plans for a restful kitchen in mostly cream with some green accents...
Thanks for the bonus kitty! (channel 4 homes always has them too!)
