Serving Thanksgiving dinner as a buffet instead of a passed meal is a great choice if you're hosting a large group. While it's pretty straight-forward — set up the spread for guests to help themselves before sitting down — there's one small thing that's easy to forget when preparing the buffet table.

Don't Forget the Trivets!

Trivets aren't completely practical for a sit-down Thanksgiving meal, as the food is constantly being passed around, but they are for a buffet-style Thanksgiving. Those hot platters of stuffing, potatoes, gratin, and more are staying put on the buffet table for guests to fill up their plates once, twice, or perhaps three times, so it's important to protect your table while they sit there. Pull out a handful of your favorites from your kitchen and place them on the buffet table before setting out the food so you won't forget them when dinner is served.
