Somewhere around April when we make the switch from hot coffee to iced, our thermos starts getting shoved further and further back in the cupboard. We always seem to forget that those handy thermoses work for cold things, too! Do you use your thermos in the summer?
Thermoses are pretty amazing things, keeping our food at a steady temperature for hours. It always seems like magic to us that we can fill our thermos with iced coffee in the morning and still find ice cubes floating inside when we pour it out at lunch time.
We're thinking beyond iced coffee and lemonade, too. Thermoses are great for transporting dishes like fruit salad or a batch of gazpacho to a picnic and keeping them cool until we're ready to eat. Plus, thermoses are generally leak-proof, so we don't have to worry about spills in our bag.
What goes in your thermos these days?

Yup. Our favorite is to keep yogurt cold. We place the thermoses in the freezer overnight and take our yummy breakfast on the go. Keeps my daughter's yogurt cold well through lunch time during the school year, too.
I do forget about my thermos in the summer! Funny. Thanks for the reminder -- with 4th of July coming up, I'll have to transport some ice-cold lemonade to our favorite fireworks show.

I love putting smoothies in the thermos to transport to work! Keeps it nice and cool so I can just drink it at my desk. You just have to be really careful when cleaning it---my last one was ruined due to pulp that couldn't be washed out (the container was too narrow).
I'm determined to drink iced chai all summer and not go bankrupt! I've been making a batch once a week and taking it to work in my coffee thermos!
Yessirree, I do!
I bring ice cream/gelato/frozen yogurt in a wide mouth thermos to picnics and eating by the lake and it stays perfectly chilled. (Tightly pack ice cream in it before you leave and keep it in the freezer until ready to go.)
I fill my tea/coffee thermos with ice water when I'm running errands on hot summer days and uses it instead of a water bottle.
I mean, I use it instead of a water bottle. I swear I don't sound like Gollum.
