Researchers from the Hatfield Marine Science Center at Oregon State University have created a new type of seaweed, dulse, which apparently has twice the nutritional benefits of kale.
And get this – apparently this stuff tastes like bacon!
Dulse grows in the wild on the Pacific and Atlantic coastlines. It looks kind of like red lettuce, and it's packed full of protein and minerals. The best part? When you fry the fresh seaweed, it tastes just like bacon. Yes, bacon!
The only bad news is that currently there is no commercial operation that grows dulse for human consumption. But with it's healthy benefits and bacon taste, you can only imagine how popular it might be in the future.
