We have a small extra sugar bowl just for cinnamon sugar. This time of year rolls around and we make sure that bowl is filled up! It's good for so many things: sprinkled on whole wheat toast in the mornings, oatmeal with milk, or unsweetened applesauce. It's also good on roasted squash.
To make cinnamon sugar we mix powdered cinnamon with white sugar, half a teaspoon at a time, until we get it to a good strength. Freshly ground cinnamon is even better - it's brighter and sweeter.

I have a shaker full of it year-round by my toaster. There is nothing like a little cinnamon toast to cure a hangover ;)
I also put cinnamon in as many things as I can, especially in the fall. My favorite is a few good shakes in tomato soup (plain old campbells made with milk!).
A bowl of cinnamon sugar sounds nice. It is also nice to keep a piece of Saigon cinnamon bark on hand to grate at the last moment with a microplane for that extra little spark of freshness.
A friend of mine brought me a piece of cinnamon back from Vietnam about 7 years ago and I'm still using it.

I've got an old-fashioned salt shaker full of the stuff year round.
I also have a shaker of it, in with my spices.
I use a salt shaker for mine.
We used and re-used the same monkey-playing-cymbols-shaped shaker for cinnamon/sugar for years and years, but eventually its lifespan ended. We still keep a jar in the spice cabinet, but it doesn't feel the same without that cheerful monkey.

I use cinnamon liberally, but for oatmeal and warm apples and such, I get a teaspoon of brown sugar from the fridge. (I'm in NYC and roach-phobic, so anything possibly attractive like that gets sealed away.) Also, the less accessible it is, the less likely I am to douse everything I eat in delicious but empty calories.
Sometimes I store sugar with a vanilla bean or two in it. Great for coffee. But cinnamon toast sounds brilliant!
I have lavender & vanilla sugar... a habit I got from my mom who loves lavender. A few sprigs of lavender and a vanilla pod in a bowl of white sugar... yum!
I have a shaker in my cupboard year round.
I use an old cinnamon shaker bottle for cinnamon sugar. I also have a separate tin for coffee mixed with cinnamon. I love making that in the stovetop espresso maker, cinnamon lattes are so yummy in the fall. Mmm, one of those is happening this weekend!
Oh, and I just remembered my favorite thing about coffee in the fall...when my boyfriend makes a big pot on a Sunday morning and throws a few cinn. sticks in the grounds basket...it's subtle and wonderful.
I recommend Cake Spice* and sugar.

i keep mine in a sugar bowl as well. few things are as delicious as cinnamon toast, i think.
I prefer my cinnamon and nutmeg straight up. :)
I have a shaker too! - but really only for toast, squash, and grilled peaches.
Coffee or hot chocolate: cayenne, nutmeg, or cinnamon straight up.
I keep a little glass jar, that originally came with colored sprinkles, filled with cinamom sugar. I think it's easier to put the lid on and shake the mixture to an even consistency. This was how my mother did it so...
In the '70s, my mom bought a Domino brand glass jar of cinnamon sugar. It was in the shape of a bear, and the lid boasted that, when the jar was empty, "Mr. Bear's a bank, too!" Mom kept refilling Mr. Bear, year after year, and now he lives in my kitchen.
ser, my Mom had the same bear. Thanks for this post, I had forgotten about cinnamon sugar toast until this, but I will be having it for breakfast this weekend to kick off Fall (too bad its nearly 90 degrees in NJ).
*snif* *tear* I thought I was the only one who did this. Now I see that there are many others who keep a handy stock of cinnamon/sugar. Yeah!

It's so important to have the right mixture handy at all times... we use it on pancakes, scrambled eggs, winter tea and so on.
I too always keep cinnamon sugar in the cupboard...great for sprinkling on top of hot buttered biscuits & french toast, but I agree, nothing beats the cinnamon toast of my childhood....buttered white bread sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and placed under the broiler until the edges are browned and the carmelized sugar makes a crunchy layer over the melted butter. (now I use whole wheat of course, but it just isn't the same)
Besides a cinnamon sugar shaker, I keep a jar of what I call Sweet Spice in my cupboard. It's a mixture of equal parts cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom and coriander, then add sugar to your taste. I think I use about 1/2 cup sugar for 1/2 tsp of each spice (not sure because I don't really measure the sugar).
Great for shaking on toast, oatmeal, cocoa, coffee, whatever.
