Dutch Oven from Green Cooking Pots

This company is so below the radar, I'm not even sure it exists. With a stripped-down website, and an "about us" page that surprises with a pair of spunky twins named Cafe and Mica who own the company, profiling themselves as healthy living buffs, Green Cooking Pots is definitely a contender for best deal in the Dutch oven department. The Le Crueset 4 1/2 quart Dutch oven will run you over $220 at Williams-Sonoma. I've cooked out of the 4 1/2 quart Dutch oven from Green Cooking Pots for a few months now and I will say there's no wear and tear, the heat is strong and even, and it cleans up well; everything enameled cast iron is known for, plus the eco-friendly benefit of non-stick without the nasty chemicals.
The Dutch ovens are available in 1 3/4, 4 1/4 and 7 1/2-qt sizes and come in really wonderful vibrant colors: yellow, green, red, blue, orange, black and brown.
Straw Mat from The ...

Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for an affordable dutch oven.
Plus it's cheaper because it's made in China (see the "about" section of the website). I'd rather save my pennies to buy something well made under reasonable labor conditions, given that Le Crueset is still made in France.
Yeah, this just seems suspiciously "too good to be true." With such limited information about the company, I'd be worried the whole time that some kind of carcinogenic chemical in the enamel was leeching into my food.
anyone with good suggestions on other good brands for dutch ovens? i'm keeping an eye out for one but there are so many that i see in department stores and even some good deals at marshall's sometimes. Le Creuset is definitely nice and reviews are great but i feel i'm paying mostly for the name - and the color selection :)
Sure, why not! And what pretty colors! Too late for me as I just coincidently today, purchased a Staub 5 1/2 qt. today for 105€(appx $150). It was on sale and a really pretty yellow that they don't seem to have in Williams & Sonoma. I bought it in Munich, it could be they aren't making that color anymore.
By the way Petulula, I bought the Staub over Le Creuset because of the stainless steel knob on the lid. Don't know why Le Creuset still insists on the cheap plastic knob, especially at those prices! In IKEA here in Germany they have a nice Dutch oven at a pretty reasonable price, see: http://www.ikea.com/de/de/catalog/products/70131724
perhaps they carry it in the USA too.
Or, you could buy an American made Lodge for $25 and free shipping on Amazon.
I've always heard that the Martha Stewart dutch ovens are really nice, and pretty cheap at Macy's.
I almost bought one of the sets- except that shipping was going to be about $60 for $150 worth of items- which made it less reasonably priced. I'd also prefer not to buy something made in China with so little info on the company.
I second Greybeard. I love my Lodge pans.
