Have any of you tried these utensils? We saw them in a kitchen store over the weekend and had to work hard to talk ourselves out of buying one. We hardly need another spatula in our collection, but these from Epicurean sound almost too good to pass up!
These utensils are made of a wood composite, which is actually layers of paper soaked in a food-safe resin. The spatulas are non-porous, so they shouldn't crack or harbor bacteria. They're dishwasher safe and don't need to be oiled like wood utensils. This gives them some serious advantage over our old (if beloved) wooden stirring spoons.
The Epicurean spatulas also really beautiful - at least we think so! We love the wood-grain patterns in blonde, brown, and black, as well as the silky-smooth feel of the utensil in our hand. Holding it in the store, the spatulas felt well-balanced and ergonomic. At $9.99 each, they feel like an affordable luxury.
This company also makes cutting boards, pizza peels, and other kitchen tools. Check out their website for more information:

I have a cutting board of theirs that I LOVE! It's easy on knife blades and, as stated, does not harbor bacteria. I didn't know they also made utensils, but I love the cutting board so much I'm likely to seek them out.
The cutting board sounds like a good idea, but 10$ for a wooden spoon? Maybe I am missing something here but I think I'll stick with my 6 for 9$ bamboo 'utensils'.
I have the pizza peel which doubles as a cutting board / dough rolling surface. It's light and compact and easy to clean. I was skeptical when I first saw it, and was deciding between that and a regular peel, and now I'm really glad I got it. Plus, one of the shop assistants at Zabar's said he'd tried every cutting board in the store, and ended up loving his Epicurean the most.
I love my cutting board. Big advantage is that they are dishwasher safe. Some people complain about a funky smell, but I've never had an issue. I agree that $10 is a bit much though.
I have two of their cutting boards and think they are grossly overrated. They are overpriced, stain and harbour smells. I would avoid their other products because of my experience with them.
The best part about Epicurean tools is that you don't have to oil them, plus they're made of wood waste.
I own some of these utensils and like them. I have the really wide spatula and a stirring/sauce spoon, and have been pleased with them both. I use the wide spatula constantly for removing pizza from the oven.
I also don't think that paying $10 is too much for a spoon. Try buying a French Berard wooden spoon and you will know the difference between good and bad wooden spoons.
The wood they (Epicurean) use for their cutting boards was originally meant for skateboard surfaces, and now they use the same material for making their boards, utensils, and Loll patio furniture.
I like their products and have several of their cutting boards.
