Cupcakes are unexpectedly polarizing. Some love them to pieces. Others are ready for them to quietly go away and leave something else (say, pie) in their exalted place of popular appeal. But when professional bakers give us very good reasons why cupcakes are here to stay, we listen. A cupcake is, after all, a fairly irresistible piece of confectionery, with its tender interior and creamy dollop of icing. A cupcake is wonderful party food, and we've looked at them quite a lot, here at The Kitchn. Here's a look back at some of our favorite recipes, icing tips, and other ideas. There are maple cupcakes, gluten-free chocolate cupcakes, and angel food cupcakes. Read on, and share your own favorite cupcake recipe too!

I'm having so much fun with this post. I have followed lots of the links and am going to try some buttercream recipes for the first time ever. Wish me luck!
Cupcakes are such pretty things. I don't know if I fancy all the exotic kinds out there but they're certainly fun to look at! My favorite is a chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache frosting.
I am one who can take cake or leave it. Cake is, to me, simply a structure onto which one PILES mounds and mounds of icing. Cupcakes are too small to accomplish this in the quantities I require :)
But, to each his/her own. The rest of you knock yourselves out. I even bake cupcakes sometimes ... for other people.
the "chocolate and vanilla: two new favorite cupcake recipes" are incredible! I made the buttercream icing for the chocolate cupcakes and the ganache for the vanilla ones for a baby shower I hosted and they were a HUGE hit. I usually dont brag about my baking, but I was super excited to have others try this recipe. It made me look like a super awesome baker :)
