Q: I recently cleaned out my kitchen cabinets and found an absurd amount of powdered hot chocolate mix. Like, enough-to-last-the-average-person-5-years absurd. Any ideas what I could do with all of it? Could I use it somehow in making desserts? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Readers, any more ideas? Do have this problem too, after cleaning out your pantry in the first week of the Kitchen Cure?

We dip bananas in it. Not exactly "cuisine", but it's a fun snack on occasion. :) Repackage it with some added cinnamon and ground vanilla beans, and it makes a good holiday gift for those people you want to give a little something to, but don't need to spend a lot on and it just needs to be a little gesture. We do this for our postal service person, both our UPS and FedEx delivery guys, our pest control guy, our trash and recycling collectors, a couple neighbors we don't really socialize with but we appreciate that they keep an eye on the neighborhood, etc.
I love adding the stuff to milk shakes. it adds a really delicious flavor and texture.
Lee's Ice Cream (a small East Coast chain, I think) uses hot chocolate mix in one of their ice cream flavors - I think its called Arbuckle. Pretty tasty.
I wonder if it could somehow be used in a cookie/brownie recipe.... maybe with the addition of flour and butter or something? Just a thought. It would certainly be an experiment.
we throw some frozen bananas and milk in the blender with it, it tastes like a frosty from Wendys...but not quite as bad. Hopefully....
Make chocolate pudding.. add milk to desired sweetness, vanilla, and cornstarch
My kids like instant cocoa mix in their malt-o-meal. We actually roll our own instant mix, but package mix would work the same way. Finish with a squirt of reddi-wip, and breakfast never lasts long.

I was going to suggest Christmas gifts, but reddylee beat me to it ...
... well, I'll suggest it anyways! :-)
Fill Mason jars with hot chocolate, toss in a couple marshmallows, and decorate with a pretty Christmas bow. My family keeps a couple jars at the door, in case unexpected company or Mummers drop by for the evening. Everything extra is given away at the New Years party.
Rim glasses with it for chocolate martinis. :)
I've used Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate to make a chocolate cake, like the ones in the links below.

My roommate likes to put it on vanilla ice cream. I've never tried it, but it looks good!
If they are the individual packages, hand them out for Hallowe'en. That's what I give out!
Ashes to Ashes by H. Joseph Ehrmann, Elixir, San Francisco
1.5 oz Espolón Tequila Reposado
.5 oz Pedro Ximenez Sherry
1 oz lemon juice
1 tsp sweetened cocoa mix
.25 oz agave nectar
1 pinch cinnamon
Place all ingredients in a mixing glass, fill with ice, cover and shake well for 10 seconds. Strain up into a cocktail glass. Garnish with cinnamon dust.
Make chocolate yogurt!
Stir 4 packets into 32 oz of plain yogurt (or 1 packet for 8 oz). I like greek, but whole-milk, creamline is good too! It's best after you let it sit for a day or overnight, but, it's great right off the bat, too.
Mmmm...delicious!
you can mix it with cool whip for a low-budget, low-calorie, low-time version of chocolate mousse.

Make panna cotta, add it to brownie mix, add some to cookie recipes . . .
Add it to your oil & maple/honey mix when making homemade granola. Viola! Chocolate granola!
I like to whip it up with some heavy whipping cream.
Or you can blend it with bananas, milk, and some ice for a banana mocha.
Or just mix it with some hot coffee for a hot mocha. Works cold, too.
Invite over everyone you know the day of the first big snow and have a hot chocolate party!!
Better Homes and Gardens has a recipe for a cocoa ripple cake that calls for cocoa. I highly recommend this recipe. It's easily adaptable to all sizes and shapes of cakes and a different way to use up some of the cocoa you've got on hand.
@Charlotte: I agree. Hot Chocolate party! Mix up a crockpot or two of the stuff, and then lay out marshmallows, cinnamon, nutmeg, flavored liquors, whipped cream, etc. and let everyone go to it.
I second the motion to put it over ice cream! We used to do that when I was a kid.
I'm confused...Are you guys just putting the powder in jars and over ice cream and on bananas dry, or are you mixing it? I only just recently decided it wasn't like chocolate milk and that I like it..
It's really good if you substitute hot chocolate mix instead of the cocoa in chocolate cake.
rayray099.........sprinkle the dry mix on ice cream, bananas, etc. I love it...the gritty sugar eventually dissloves in the melting ice cream.
Lately I've been adding some hot chocolate mix to with a splash of cream to my coffee at home when I get a craving for a fancy coffee drink but can't justify spending $4-5 for it.
