Name: Jayme Marie
City: Denver
Resolution: Create At Least One Garden-to-Glass Cocktail Per Month!
Here's what Jayme Marie says about her goal...
My resolution: Last summer, I thoroughly enjoyed creating a few cocktails using ingredients from my garden. I used homemade orange bitters, honey liqueur, and fresh thyme to make this particular cocktail. I'd love to develop an entire collection of cocktails that reflects the herbs, vegetables, and fruits that are seasonally available in my own backyard. I've recently learned to compost, preserve, and make my own stock, but I'd like to add a little fun and creativity to the whole urban farming process.
What a great idea, Jayme! Readers, do you have any advice or suggestions for her?

Straw Mat from The ...

That drink looks so pretty! I don't have a garden (or a green thumb, unfortunately), but I also really enjoy making my own syrups, liqueurs, etc, from fresh, seasonal ingredients. Think I may steal this resolution. I've been meaning to try my hand at making bitters as well, so thanks for the reminder!
There's a fantastic recipe for a basil margarita floating around on the web somewhere. It uses elderflower liquor which you can totally make yourself, and crushed basil leaves. It calls for the sweet basil but I actually loved the edge of cinnamon basil in mine (but it's also a convenience thing because that's the variety I grow). What a fun resolution! Cheers!
What a cool idea! I would love to try this at least a couple times myself. Thanks for the inspiration!
What a fun resolution, Jayme! Hey - Kitchn, could you post Jayme's monthly creations?!
Love this one! And I, too, would love to hear about Jayme's monthly creations!
I created a recipe, based on others, for a muddled basil martini. I love basil in cocktails.
Mojitos and mint juleps. Same ingredients, different booze. 2 birds, 1 stone, as they say..
I love this resolution, and would love to create more myself. I would really like to see more recipes along these lines!
Thanks so much for the support! I've been inspired to create a little something this afternoon. Thankfully, I have a pot of basil growing indoors: some of that, along with some thawed-out tomatoes, harvested from the summer, will make a perfect Sunday afternoon Bloody Mary. I definitely need more accountability with resolutions, so I'll be documenting the progress, along the way!
Donkenzie, if you find that particular recipe, please post it. I love elderflower in cocktails! Thanks so much!
Found this recipe via Google, looks promising: http://edibleohiovalley.com/stories/winter-2012/awards-backyard-basil-margarita/
