We just acquired a new ice cream maker and there's no way we're waiting until next summer to put it to use! Besides, there are plenty of delicious seasonal ingredients that are just begging to be churned with cream and drizzled with hot fudge. Pumpkin spice, anyone? Maybe a maple-walnut? Or caramel apple? Which one to try first?!
Even when it's chilly outside, we don't have to reach to far before finding an excuse to eat ice cream. These ice creams sound particularly appealing right now:
From the Kitchn:
1. Spiced Apple Cider Sorbet
2. Brown Butter Ice Cream
3. Chocolate Gelato with Salted Caramel Pecans
From Around the Internet:
4. Pistachio Nougat Ice Cream from Canelle et Vanille
5. Ginger Ice Cream from Chow.com
6. Pumpkin Ice Cream from Williams-Sonoma
7. Cinnamon Ice Cream from Epicurious
8. Maple Butter-Pecan Ice Cream from Epicurious
Which one should we make this weekend?

Hey Emma,
what type of Icecream machine did you get? Was there any particular reason for your choice?
I got this Cuisinart model. Cuisinart has a good reputation for ice cream machines, plus I've honestly had my eye on it since we reviewed this same machine a few years ago.
This particular model has a slightly smaller capacity (1.5 qts) than other models that have come out in the past year or so, but I also have limited storage space in my kitchen and didn't see the need for a larger model.
If you buy one, have fun and let us know what you make!
We made space for an ice cream maker a few months ago, and haven't looked back! Even ready made chocoalte custard from the supermarket tastes great with a dash of something alcoholic churned into it...
No recipe for it, but last weekend, we had a bag of (very ripe!) pears given to us, which were peeled and chopped, cooked in a little sugar and water, cooled, blended, and then folded into some whipped heavy cream, and put into the machine - autumnal bliss! A bit of syrup from a jar of stem ginger drizzled over the top...
Thanks Emma! I've been craving an icecream maker for ages... and I think I will finally go get one. Thanks for the tip!
Mmmm... fall ice cream conjures up the prospect of apple fritters with burnt (?) caramel ice cream at CraftBar for me... best ice cream ever.
Thanks for sharing these links! I'm a firm believe in ice cream year round. In fact I just made David Lebovitz's Maple Ice Cream recipe, and I swirled in Pumpkin Pie Fudge I had made that was a little dry. HOLY COW. This was an amazing combo. Here's the link to my blog post about it.
Pumpkin Gingersnap! Anyone who is from Richmond, VA you should come to Gelati Celesti! Best ice cream in town.
I love making ice cream at home with my Cuisinart (2-quart model). If you haven't you should get David Lebovitz's book, it is great and it has a ton of recipes.
