There are a million ice cream companies out there, which is why we're more interested in making ice cream than buying it. But now and then we come across an ice cream company that makes some unusual, and possibly even tasty, flavors.
Jeni's Ice Cream of Columbus, Ohio, is just one of these companies. How does Candied Beets and Mascarpone ice cream with Honey and Orange Zest sound? How about Kentucky Bourbon and Buttered Pecan? Don't live near Columbus? That's okay, you can get six flavors shipped to you for $60 plus shipping ($25 to NY state, $45 to California).
OR... you can try making some of Jeni's flavors yourself and submitting your recipe to our Best Lick! Ice Cream Contest. I triple-dog-dare you.

Maybe not the most appropriate place to put it but another interesting icecream maker, this one London based, is Lola's on Ice. http://www.lolasonice.com/ they have flavours like gin and tonic, eton mess (an english thing), pesto, and good ole other ones. Worth checking out. It's in a ice cream van that you seem randomly around central London.
i looooove jeni's ice cream! this summer i'm practically there everyday @ the grandview store.
so glad to see a c-bus business on AT!
And here's an interesting peach gelato recipe, no ice cream maker required:

When I visit family in Columbus I always stop at the North Market and get Jeni's ice cream - and I am always checking out the website for recipe inspiration! Their salty caramel was one of the first things that inspired me to try making ice cream... Right now I really want to try the Coriander Ice Cream with Raspberry Jelly...
interesting...my dad made a beet jam spiked with orange zest that was sold at dean and deluca for a few years. i always loved the taste so i'll definitely have to try jen's beet ice cream.
i know jeni's ice cream and jeni personally, and this is some good stuff!!! try it, you'll LOVE it!
way to go Jeni! i love ice cream and Jeni's the place to go if you want absolutely original flavor. i have had the Choco Coco Curry with dark chocolate, coconut and garam masala powder. and the Candied Fennel Seed was another one that blew me away. i'm just blown away to see good ol' Columbus, OHIO rocking it out on AT.
I will also jump on the bandwagon expressing how fantastic Jeni's ice cream is. Personal favorites have included her sweet corn with blackberry (I initially mentioned Jeni's on the (sweet corn ice cream thread), lavender wild berry, and cucumber creme fraiche. Of course, her famous salty carmel is also incredible.
I love Jeni and her ice cream! My personal favorite is the cardomom-lime half ice cream/half yogurt concoction. It is crazy addictive!
I visited Jeni's for the first time on 8-17-06 at the North Market. My son and wife have loved this place. I fell in LOVE with the Lemon Yogurt and Raspberries!! I don't even LIKE yogurt but this was wonderful. Thank you so much.DD
My favorite of Jeni's ice creams is her goat's cheese and fig, a luscious flavor that seems to be available only during the winter.
I need to stock up my freezer. This is *so* good after a steak, with mushrooms and a nice red wine.
Jeni's ice cream is the best I have ever had. A visit to Columbus is not complete without a stop at Jeni's. I love the pistachio paired with the fabulous salty caramel.
