We've seen a bazillion projects over the last few years that utilize chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint can be used to make lists or write down dinner menus, or help sort out the family schedule in plain view. You can utilize this material without making your kitchen look like a schoolhouse, too; all you need is a little color.
The team over at Martha Stewart is always doing their best to inspire useful embellishments to your workspace and we love the idea of a colored chalkboard. In this case, it tucks out of the way, but if the cabinet door is left open, you don't see a hanging memo board, it looks simply seamless. Making your own colored chalkboard paint is pretty darn easy, plus it allows you to match it to your cabinets or other colors in the room.

Martha Concrete Lam...

Oh my. I had no idea you could do this. Martha Martha...
Huh! That's pretty cool.
Gorgeous. I think I just need Martha's creative team to come live in my house for a week and do things like this to it. Although I do worry about the potential for children to not see the difference between "walls" and "walls that are designated for writing with chalk" if there's no clear delineation, i.e., no separate color for the "writing allowed" section. But if you don't have kids, I guess it's fine :)
Cool idea, but I never understood writing the grocery list on the chalkboard. You can't take it to the store with you.
You can take a photo of the grocery list with your iphone and take it with you. It would be quick and easy. Having the chalkboard lets any family member write on it when they've used the last of something...
^^This. We have a dry erase board and take a photo before we hit the store.
