If you can't get your hands on a cool, frothy soda shop treat today, you'll certainly want to locate one after watching this cute stop motion video. It features the egg cream, and often misunderstood (it contains neither egg nor cream) classic soda, that's just ideal for summer: it's far lighter than a milkshake and has plenty of fizz. Just watch this and we dare you not to whip one up tonight!
And if you can't get enough of the video, try our take on the classic:

I'm so confused. Is 'seltzer' the same as soda water (aka club soda) or is it the same as sparkling mineral water?
@charlie26--yes. Water with bubbles.
I'm a New Yorker. I'm supposed to "get" the egg cream. But no. I try them occasionally, thinking this time...but no. They're gross. I watch that cute vid and think "I want to like egg creams." But I don't, and I'm afraid never will.
i think i want a float version - i used to make this with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and club soda. in the end, it may taste very similar.
@cmcinnyc - But...sparkling mineral water and soda water are two different things, Even though they're both water with bubbles.
:/ Still confused.
Seltzer is the same as soda water, but it's not club soda or sparkling mineral water. Seltzer does not have the sodium salts that club soda does. You can drink it plain, it doesn't have much of a taste, or you can mix it.
I'm originally from New York and cannot explain eggcreams to people. I miss being able to order them at diners.
*sigh*
I guess I will have to make myself an egg cream one day (I don't think it's available anywhere in Europe). It features quite big in "Fever Dream" by Preston & Child, so I'm curious what it's like. It sounds rather weird.
