While planning for my recent summer cabin experience, there was one tool I made sure to pack: an oven thermometer. In fact, I rarely leave home without it when I know I'll be using the oven in an unfamiliar kitchen.
According to tests conducted by Cook's Illustrated, two ovens set to the same temperature can actually differ by as much as 90 degrees! Using a simple oven thermometer can help prevent mishaps and ensure success when baking, roasting, or heating in an oven you don't know well. If you're traveling to a country with a different temperature scale, an oven thermometer may help you convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice versa.
Plus, it's inexpensive, light, and easy to pack. Just wrap it in some bubble wrap or clothing to protect the glass.
Do you travel with an oven thermometer, or any other kitchen tools?
