I made those peanut butter ones (without banana) and my dog LOVES them. I even used the same cookies cutter
What about kitteh treats?!
@ebarrett3 Re-Nest has a recipe for Tuna Tidbits.

I've made the ones from Gourmet magazine twice now, and they were a hit with all of the dogs (and people) who tried them. Definitely great, and a fantastic, easy, cheap Christmas gift!
I made these pumpkin dog biscuits for all of my dog-owning friends last year.
I just made cheesy dog cookies. They turned out great for both our dog and us... http://www.justgetfloury.com/?p=1548
Yes, kittie treats would be cute too! :) But will check out the tuna tidbits recipe.
Cat treats are trickier IMO since cats are carnivorous animals and non-meat products should be avoided as much as possible. There are less restrictions when making treats for omnivorous dogs. :)
Me and my Fiance make the Fois Gras ones from Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bakery Cookbook. It's the ONLY homemade one the little brat has actually enjoyed.
Also I checked some of the recipes, and they were *not* healthy dog treats. So thread carefully if you chose to make them and read the reviews and comments. AP flour and corn meal don't have their place is dog tummies.
In a country where PETA was founded and pet is supposed to be "the companion" of the human, I find very ludicrous how we constantly try to feed carnivores carbohydrates and other human food and declare them healthy. Dogs are opportunistic carnivores. They will feed on carbohydrates when there is no other options, but dogs does not need carb and it's actually detrimental for its health. If you compare dog's digestive track, teeth, and its stomach enzymes to the herbivore's ones or even omnivore's ones, they are vastly different. No wonder in this country dogs and cats have myriads of health problems that are not found in other country's pets just like humans. Not only we have propagated wrong nutritional decision to ourselves, we have done the same to the innocent animals who depend on us.
If you really want some nice treat for your pet, get some lean meat like chicken breast and dry them in your oven. You don't need this "fancy" recipe with all these ingredients.
Also, if you are feeding your pets dry dog foods per your vet's recommendation, think again. Practically all the researches done on dry dog foods were sponsored by massive dog food corporations including P&G. Would you feed your baby and yourself some dried food formulated by a massive for-profit corporation every day for your entire life even if it's nutritionally "balanced?" You wouldn't, right? Imagine feeding your kid a nutritionally complete cereal made by Kellogg every day in their lives. You find it ridiculous right? Well, that's what you are doing to your pets. If you truly love your pets, we have to learn more about them rather than just follow some propaganda written by a massive for-profit corporation.
I agree with the poster above me. Dogs don't need to eat grain. It's not healthy for them at all. Since we took our dogs off grains, they've lost a bit of weight, their coats have been shinier, eyes clearer, and energy boosted. Not mention that they don't have that funky grain-line foot smell anymore.
I do still feed my dogs a dried food, but it's grain and potato free.
You can give your cat homemade treats of plain cooked chicken or turkey :) I gently poach chicken breast in plain water until just cooked. Then I cut the chicken into bite sized pieces and feed to my cats. Extras can be frozen along with the cooking water (it turns into broth) and used later. Raw chicken and turkey can also be fed. Some cats like small chunks of raw meat.
I also agree with what Iridium said.
Wonderful comment, Iridium. Fresh meat (especially organ meats) have always been my go-to for cat treats, and my parents' dogs always seem to love them as well. I don't understand this whole baked-goods-for-dogs fad.
Here's the deal.
This site is not about the day in and day our feeding of our pets. This site is about the occasional TREAT for pets.
The Christmas season is upon us. I fully intend, as I have done the last 15 years, to bake doggie and kitty Christmas cookies which contain carbs / grains - for both my pets as well as for friends and family's pets.
For the record. Life is about balance. It's not about extremes.
My 2 pets, 2 labs are fed a homemade holistic - grain starch carb free diet twice daily......
So, unless you have concrete evidence that 3 or 10 of these cookies over the holiday's is going to 'do my dogs in' kinda like what happened to the chicken at the slaughter house (the one I fed to my dogs tonight).....lighten up!
So, No. I will not be putting ribbons on chicken breast's nor bows on balls of hamburger and giving them as gifts this season.
I'm with ya, Kim G.
Also, does anyone know how long these will keep? I made the kitchn homemade doggie treat recipe with bacon fat to give as gifts. I will keep them in the fridge for good measure, but I might not be giving some of them away for a couple weeks yet. Will they be ok?
I have four dog, they enjoyed the peanutbutter and bacon cookies. I feed my dogs what I like to eat sometimes. Nothan wrong with cooking your dog hamburger meat or some rice and pasta once in a while. Dogs dont live very long an they want to enjoy the taste of food too. My dogs are very healthy an lean. My dog will be having their own ham just as they do every year. Merry Christmas everyone. I enjoy the recipes
well said Kim G, I never understand why if these people are so against this then why would they come on a site to look up a recipe unless they have nothing better to do with there time. My 4 yorkies love all the treats I make a little bit of something nice never hurts they are called treats for a reason
