How would you like to sink down into a comfortable, cushy armchair in the midst of a cooking marathon? How about if that armchair was right next to the stove or the kitchen table? We expect to see armchairs in living rooms and bedrooms, but the kitchen is more unusual—although not unheard of, as you can see from the photos above. What do you think? Is this a great idea, or a cleaning job waiting to happen?

I love the idea, especially in a cozy, British-y kitchen like the 2nd view. The white chair next to the stove would most emphatically NOT work for grease splattering, sauce splashing me.
I love this idea, too -- it's so homey and sweet. Have you guys checked out John and Sherry's kitchen on Young House Love? They recently added an armchair in the corner, creating the coziest little nook for lounging by the kitchen's hubbub. Totally inspired, even in my little apartment kitchen!
My mom has a great kitchen/dining room with a sort of a glass roof porch attached. She has a wicker chair next to the furnace (weird word in english, I mean the furnace as in a heating device, just to clear it up), and every evening when the food's cooking, she sits down with her newspaper and a glass of wine :-). She calls it the perfect way to start her evening.
I love all these rooms! I have a sofa in my kitchen. It's a long room with a bay window ~ perfect spot to lounge/visit. But then I also have FLOR carpet tiles in my kitchen so...
With the exception of the first two that actually have a nook to put a chair in, I think it just looks out of place. Like somebody had an extra chair and just plunked it in the room. I would make a mess if I had one but my family room is right around the corner so I'd rather sit there!
When my mom got sick we moved one of our living room arm chairs into the kitchen so she had a comfortable place to hang out while everyone was cooking or washing up. It's still there, though we've swapped out armchairs periodically, and it's my favorite place to sit with a cup of tea or just talk to the cook when I go home to visit. If you have the space it's wonderful.
I'd like to have a larger kitchen, with room for a big table and lots of comfy chairs of various kinds, but I do not. The Welsh farmhouse kitchen I spent some time in when I was younger has a few big windsor chairs for hanging out by the Aga on a cold wet day.
I sure wouldn't have a white chair though, not even with a slip cover. Hats off to the folks who can manage that.
