Who: Alpes Inox, Italian kitchen design
What We Noticed: This modestly-sized stainless steel cabinet didn't look like much... until we opened it and found practically a whole kitchen inside! Read on for more info and photos.
The appliances are made by three separate manufacturers: Liebherr (fridge), Siemens (dishwasher) and the oven appears to be by Alpes Inox. Just add a sink and a cooktop and you're set, and in a very small footprint. So smart and awesome!

Martha Concrete Lam...

I wonder how the heat from the oven affects the cooling of the refrigerator?
I dig this. It makes me think about that next step: What about communities with communal kitchens? I forget the name of the article talking about the presence of these communities in the States (they were imitating a model from a European country, though which one, I can't recall). That seems to be the next step in "small footprint," though I don't know if I could ever loosen my entrenched cling to my privacy/ownership. This combined appliance seems like an excellent in-between! :)
What happens if one component breaks? Can you replace them individually? I would want a lifetime warranty I think. I also have my doubts about having a hot oven next to your cold fridge.
Cool. This is like the Bulthaup cabinet except smaller (maybe more affordable?)
I echo everyone's comments about what would happen if one component breaks. do you have to send the whole thing in? And the freezer portion (well, I'm assuming that's the freezer portion) looks rather small...that being said, I dig it! And I want it!
my company bought a building with a stove/microwave/fridge/sink/cabinet/dishwasher thing (one, lower cabinet height unit) that looks like it was at least from the '60's... possibly older.
(so apparently this idea isn't new... wonder why the idea didn't take off the first time? possibly the idea that bigger is better?)
...interesting thoughts :D
from an energy efficiency standpoint this product is ridiculous - the fridge & freezer should be located away from heat generators.

Ditto...and more. Love the *idea* but NOT a risk I'd be willing to take. Definitely not well thought out.
I would like to point out that Alpes Inox is an Italian (not german) company.
And yes, the components are replaceable individually, being a modular freestanding system.
The whole system is called Liberi in Cucina (something like "free in the kithcen") and allows the customer to create almost every kind of composition, starting from very simple functional "blocks". On top of this the Inox steel quality is very high (19/10) and the company has built a really good reputation building and selling stainless steel appliances over the last 50 years or so.
The prices and specifications of these modular systems can be found on their website www.liberincucina.it (see catalogues section for listings and prices).
The oven/refrigerator combination is just one of the many possibilities i guess...so it's worth to give their website a look.
