This kitchen, with its muted wall tones and white cabinetry, would be completely ordinary if it weren't for the eye-catching bright yellow kitchen island, which gives the whole room a much-needed energy boost.

As always, paint color is the quickest way to transform a room, and this kitchen is a good reminder to think beyond the walls. A central piece of furniture— a cabinet, or kitchen island, in this case—painted in a strong accent color is a budget-friendly way to give the kitchen a facelift.

Wow! So warm and inviting!
Love it. Love the whole concept of painting the island a bold color and leaving the main cabinets more neutral or stained wood. It's the perfect pop and easy(er) to change if you need one!
I love this!
That same yellow is the accent color in my kitchen. I don't have room for an island, but I have pops of yellow in an otherwise neutral space. It's a fabulous color. =)
I'd say the funky 3 color tile backsplash laid out in diagonals is unique too.
I love it! What color is this, exactly? I would love to bring some bring yellow into my kitchen, but with white cabinets and black granite countertops (that we cannot afford to replace at the moment), I fear it would look very bee-like. Well done here!
I disagree with the statement that this kitchen "would be completely ordinary" without the island. Yes, the yellow makes a strong color statement. If readers go to the original source at Better Homes and Gardens, they would see a lot of other great ideas. I happen to subscribe to DIYideas, which I believe is the magazine source for this picture. Click over and readers would see:
--stock subway tile laid in a creative pattern
--a DIY orb light over the dining area.
--dining chairs with the tops with original wood finish and the bottoms painted a cheerful blue
--what look like home center "copycat" pendants over a custom island
--a colorful area rug that ties everything together
In short, a primer on how to achieve a designer look without a big budget.
This is why we need a like button, so that I can say we need a love button!
I love it! So bright and cheerful - I wish I could incorporate color like that in my home.
How is that room ordinary? And of course the island is yellow. The tiles are blue, white, and yellow. The walls are blue and the countertops/cabinets are white, ergo....
