From New York to the Midwest it's freezing. Even here in Florida temperatures are dipping down into the 30s, which makes people freak out.
Cold weather like this makes me want to scurry into my kitchen and bake something warm and gooey, or cuddle up with a hot cup of soup. But some people go into kitchen hibernation when the weather gets cold; when you're dragging in after a slushy walk home Chinese takeout can seem a mighty fine way to go.
What about you? What do you crave when the weather gets this cold and unfriendly? Do you want to spend all your time in the kitchen, and if so, what do you want to eat? Good cold weather recipe below...
The recipe for that spicy, steaming bowl of broth and shrimp in the picture is from Jon Armstrong, over at Blurbomat. It takes about five minutes to make, and it's just too good. It will make your insides warm.

My favorite cold weather soup-Italian Turkey Veg soup
-1 pkg of turkey sausages (hot Italian)-remove casing and brown in dutch oven (add a little olive oil to prevent sticking)
-Add in 1 chopped large chopped onion, a couple of chopped carrots, a pkg of sliced mushrooms. Let cook several minutes until veg are softened.
-Add 1-2 cups of chopped spinach or kale
-Add 1-2 tsp each (depending on your taste) of fennel seeds, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of thyme
-Add 48-60 oz of chicken broth
-Add 1 can drained and rinsed black beans
Bring to boil and let simmer 20-30 minutes (or longer)
This soup is spicy, yummy and incredibly healthy.
