My friends, it is cold. And there is no better combination than cold weather and hot drinks. Unless it is this seasonal favorite, hot buttered rum, rendered even more seasonal by its association with another seasonal favorite, pumpkin butter. That's right. Pumpkin buttered rum might just be your new favorite thing.
Alcohol always warms the body, and hot alcohol doubly so. Delight your guests, and warm your insides, with this tweak of an old recipe.
Now, if you have never had hot buttered rum before, you may be a bit skeptical. Alcohol and butter? Believe and do not doubt. Butter adds a certain richness to this drink, as well as a bit of flavor. Imagine drinking a warm glass of boozy pumpkin pie. Don't you love fall?
Hot Pumpkin Buttered Rum
makes 6 servings
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup light brown sugar, loosely packed
1/3 cup pumpkin butter, such as Trader Joe's brand
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Whipped cream, to garnish
Cream together the butter, brown sugar, pumpkin butter, pumpkin pie spice, and salt using a mixer on low setting. Add approximately 2 tablespoons of butter mixture to the bottom of a heat-proof glass or mug. Add 2 ounces of dark rum. Fill the glass with boiling water. Stir to mix. Optional: top with whipped cream. Garnish with a dusting of spice.
