One of us has a wicked cold, and this cocktail from our inbox is looking mighty good. We're curious - do you have any cocktail remedies for the common cold?
This one is from Imperia vodka, and it goes like this:
IMPERIA Sweet Standard
1.7 fl oz IMPERIA
1 tablespoon honey
2-3 ice cubes
Combine ingredients with and shake. Serve in a tumbler and garnish with a piece of fresh ginger.
That doesn't seem like quite enough ginger to us - we want to spike up this Flu Season Ginger Honey Lemon Tonic with a little extra something. That would probably be more effective. And yet in the end we'll probably hold off on any booze right now; it wouldn't play well with the cold medicine.
But we are intrigued by the idea of vodka and honey - anyone ever tried this?

My dad calls this one "the Hemingway cure," and it's best for soothing a sore throat and cough.
juice of one lemon, heated
shot of good whiskey, heated
honey to taste (1/2 a tsp to 1 tsp per serving)
water to taste
garnish with a slice of lemon
serve w/box of extra-soft tissues and a book
We used to warm it all up gently on the stove (I didn't get this cure until I was 17--still underage but no, not in my crib), but now I microwave it. It's basically just a hot whiskey lemonade, but calling it The Hemingway Cure makes it more effective.
mmm, wait, isn't "the Hemingway cure" basically a hot toddy?
because i was going to recommend a hot toddy. ;)
subtract the water and double the whisky in the recipe above, and that's my cold cure!
I mix equal amounts of honey and lemon juice in a mug, about 1/3 of the way full, and then pour boiling water to fill the mug. Stir to blend, and sip.
I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one who craves a lemony, bourbon-y toddy when I'm sick! I had a (very brief, RIP) boyfriend once who lectured me on the evils of alcohol when you're sick. I always knew he was full of excrement.
The Hemingway Cure posted above is what I have when I'm sick and feeling particularly sorry for myself. Only difference is, I stud a slice of lemon with cloves.
I've never had luck using honey in drinks, unless the drink is served hot. otherwise, it just makes a gooey mess in my shaker. (maple and ginger syrup, however, work fine for me.)
Does anyone else have this problem?
