Since this week is devoted to all things sweet, we thought we'd ask what camp you fall into when it comes to dessert.
We love watching this play out over a dessert menu at a restaurant. We're the types who will order the boring chocolate cake over dozens of more inventive desserts; it's chocolate or nothing. But we know people who can't pass up a fruit cobbler, no matter what the season.
Tell us your favorite desserts, and enjoy the nonstop sweets this week!
Oh, and the desserts pictured above, from left to right:
• Velvety Beet and Cocoa Cake
• Meyer Lemon Shaker Pie
• Salted Pistachio Brittle

Poor nuts! I choose fruit but nuts come a close second. I wonder if the answers would differ depending on the season/weather-it's lovely where I am at the mo so I'm in the mood for fresh fruit deserts, not chocolate or nuts but that would be different in November...
seriously, if the dessert menu doesn't have a chocolate item on it, i rarely order.
I am a sucker for apple pie/crumble/crisp/etc. Mmmmmmm delicious!
I said something fruity, but chocolate is a close, a *very* close, second. I just more often opt for a piece of really good chocolate as a mid-afternoon break/snack than as dessert. And I love fruit cobbler and shortcakes. :)
There should be an option for cake/pastry/cream-filled or topped/cookies -- think French or Italian bakeries. Damn, now I'm hungry for a cheese danish . . .
Apples, apples, apples...
fruit all right but with whipped cream :) the right balance of tart/creamy makes the best dessert in my experience
None of the above! The only dessert I go for is ice creams and sorbets.
Please, you can't ask me to choose! I love em all...
@breakdown - I thought I was the only one... you can have the most extravagant, decadent dessert menu, butif there's a sorbet hid down at the bottom there, thats always what I am getting.
I love chocolate, but I will always go for the fruity dessert first. Dutch apple pie is my fave, followed by anything lemony, and berry pies/cakes/tarts/crumbles next.
I am ALL about the chocolate.
I voted for chocolate but it really depends on my mood and what sounds good: could be chocolate, fruity, nuts or cheese. A 5th option-"all of the above" would have fit me perfectly.
I think there should be another option for unusual - I love unexpected pairings, ingredients or cooking techniques in a dessert.
Jeez... I just love cheese. I can't resist. Plus, I love a good salad at the end of a meal. Strange, I know. Not really a sweet tooth - but I'm on board for a nice sorbet, too!
I want an all of the above option!
Ice cream! Ice cream! Ice cream!!!!!
It really depends on what type of meal the dessert is following. If I had a light salad, I would be more tempted with a piece of cake. But after a heavy pasta meal, all I'd want is fresh fruit.
I would love love love to see some nut-replacement options.
I don't mean just nut-free cooking, because that's easy enough; what do you use instead when a recipe calls for nuts? Sunflower seeds for peanuts, maybe? But what about pecans, walnuts, et cetera?
Pretty please?
Phrased that way, it's all of the above, but in reality I'm REALLY picky about desserts. Nuts, chocolate, and fruit are all tasty, but I HATE HATE HATE creamy stuff and have no sweet tooth. I'm all over a good, DARK chocolate cake with or without nuts, or a fruit pie, though.
I think I'm kind of none of the above - I prefer good CARBS!!! Any kind of cake, cookies, sweet breads... I love when the carbs include some chocolate or fruit or nuts, but it's the cake and such that really draw me.
I'm greedy; I love combinations of either two, or even of all three. Chocolate cherry biscotti with pistachios? Mmm.
Also love any dessert featuring coconut, which is sort of halfway between the fruit and nut category? In a category all of its own, really.
Ice cream please!
I'd vote for anything involving coffee, espresso or mocha flavor, were it an option. :)
I lean toward the chocolaty, creamy options, but I will eat anything desserty.
Something creamy - Creme brulee, a fruit fool, Lemon cream pots, yum! Unless there is a proper pavlova on the menu with chewy meringue, cream and berries...
I have two stomaches: one for the main meal, and one for dessert - ANYTHING sweet. No cheese plate for me, thanks.
e) all of the above
;)
it depends, although I've never been a dessert eater really. No room! On the rare occasions I eat a sweet, though, I'm fine with most anything*, BUT it must have texture/variety. *Most anything being chocolate, fruit or a nutty sweet thing. The only thing I don't do are crappy artificial fake packaged crap. If I'm going to spend the calories/indulge, it'd better be on something good! Besides, the fake stuff somehow tastes plasticky to me.
Fudgy chocolate, caramel or lemon for me. Pretty much nothing else will do. Or so I tell myself in an attempt to limit consumption.
I love desserts, but my spouse and I are both supposed to keep our sugar intake to a minimum. So it's easier if we just concentrate on good non-dessert food.
