When you're stuck inside for most of the winter, as many of us are, the idea of letting the outdoors inspire a first birthday party is a pretty good one. What I love most about the bash that blogger Zehava Harel threw for her daughter, Linor, is that she took nature to a whimsical place with her fairytale-slash-garden-themed party full of pretty pinks, sugary sweets, and floral touches.
First, take note of the DIY big balloon arch, which was inspired by grand curved gates that typically guard secret gardens. It makes a big impact without costing a fortune. I love that Zehava added greenery and some 3D butterflies to build on the garden theme. You could use one to frame your dessert table, as Zehava did, or make yours the backdrop for a photo booth.
Like the balloon arch, the smash cake also got the fresh flower treatment, with flowers wrapped around the tray and blooms tucked in at the base. How sweet is that?
And because first birthdays tend to be more about the adults than the kids, Zehava remembered to create a small play area for the little ones. In keeping with her garden theme, she set up a teepee, a grass-like shag rug, and plenty of throw pillows and balloons.
