No longer just the province of grand entryways and dining rooms, chandeliers are showing up in kitchens, creating a glamorous focal point for even the humblest of rentals. The kitchen is a hardworking place, so we wonder: do you think this look is fine and fancy or a little too fussy?
What do you think? Fancy or too fussy?

Floral Drink Dispen...

Ugh! Fussy! And they look like they would throw ghastly shadows!
We used to have a chandelier in our kitchen and loved the look (but we live in an old house, it might.) The problem we had is that we don't have a great hood and the chandelier slowly got coated with grease, dust, more grease, more dust. Keeping it clean was s nightmare and we could never quite get all the dust out of the nooks. The shades had to be replaced ever year or so. We eventually replaced it with a lower maintenance light fixture. I would consider if we revisited it putting a chandelier in the eating area we can see from the kitchen, but not over the kitchen island itself.
We have a very plain modern glass lamp, like the top of a space ship, hanging over the table and the glass really needs daily cleaning to look presentable. We installed a very good vent fan because we like to fry (we do it less now) but there is always that slightly greasy dustiness of a kitchen. The above kitchen is beautiful, but keeping those crystals sparkling would be a task in a real working kitchen.
I think they'd have the opposite effect of ghastly shadows, I think they would cast a nice, romantic light if they were isolated as the primary source of light in a kitchen sometimes.
I think they are lovely in the right kitchen.
