Breakfast cereal is not the sexiest thing out there. Especially when left in the chipboard boxes it comes in. But check out how great it looks in glass jars out on the countertop:
This is a handy way to keep tabs on how much you have left (we're always getting caught running out of cereal) while adding to the kitchen's decor. The jars at Young House Love were purchased for a bargain and the ones at Thrifty Decor Chick were dressed up with some DIY labels.

Really love this... especially the DIY labels!
I like it too. I recently started storing oatmeal and walnuts in glass jars on our countertop. Jars are easier to deal with in the morning than clumsy cardboard boxes!
Very cool... but would the cereal go stale quicker this way?
Looks great if you have a lot of counter space.
cute way to store the cereals,.
I have those exact same jars full of cereal! It's a great idea.
I've been doing this for a while, I hate the boxes and they usually end up on top of the fridge.
We don't eat much cereal, but when I make granola, this is how I store it --- with a scoop right in the jar. I also store crackers in glass jars.
LiLMissRnR, my crackers stay fresh longer in an apothecary jar than they do in the box, so I imagine cereal would, too --- you just have to be sure the lid fits well. (Mine don't have gaskets, just a glass lid, but it's heavy and well-fitting.)
Thanks for the mention! To answer the freshness question -- I swear the cereal stays fresher in the jars than it does in the box. Like Elsa mentioned, they don't have a seal, but the weight of the glass lid does a great job of keeping air out. The cereal tastes better out of these after a couple weeks than the box.
Many processed cereals have added vitamins and minerals. Are we entirely certain those supplements aren't light sensitive?
I too hate the boxes.
I've got some Multigrain Squares in a Bodum glass jar on the kitchen counter. I don't think I go through it terribly quickly but I've never had a problem with "freshness."
