Panna is a brand new bi-monthly digital cooking magazine that comes to your iPad through a free app and it is, quite frankly, amazing. In my opinion, app-based cooking media has so far been clunky and too derivative of print media. Panna founder David Ellner, on the other hand, created a video-based cooking magazine that takes full advantage of up-to-the-minute technology to give the kind of hands-on instruction that's often needed to make a recipe truly useful. Read on for more on how Panna works and for why I think this magazine is so terrific. More

Like a lot of fall flavors, many pumpkin flavors aren't exactly made with real pumpkin. Pumpkin Spice Lattes use pumpkin syrup and some foods just rely on pumpkin pie spices to capture that distinctive autumnal flavor. Read on to watch the process! More
I know what you're probably thinking. Why would you need an automatic popcorn-launcher when you can toss popcorn into your mouth perfectly well on your own? And to that I say: Why wouldn't you want a machine that uses the voice-activated command "Pop!" to shoot a piece of popcorn directly into your mouth? Still don't believe me? See it in action below. We've shared a few tips before on how to best separate eggs, but this trick made us stop in our tracks. We can't understand a word of the video, but the visuals are so compelling that we don't need to. Prepare to be amazed: More
It's Julia-mania today, on Julia Child's 100th birthday, and PBS got into the swing of things too with this video remix of Julia, autotuned and set to a beat, telling us how it is in the kitchen. It doesn't beat my favorite video performance from Julia (that amazing occasion with the blowtorch and David Letterman) but it's charming and rather sweet to see her break out in song. More

Here are two more videos from Kramer demonstrating how to correctly hone and stone your knives, processes which take just a few minutes, but make such a difference in cooking. More

In this short but very illuminating video, Master Bladesmith Bob Kramer demonstrates five simple tests to tell if your knife is sharp enough. (Spoiler alert: it probably isn't.) More
