Have you become acquainted with Biscoff (or Speculoos) cookies? They're a warmly-spiced biscuit-type cookie that's wonderful with coffee or tea. And now many companies have turned the favorite treat into a spread. (Some call it "cookie butter.") You know what that means, right? Speculoos brownies, cookies and cakes are starting to reveal themselves from every corner of the internet. We couldn't be happier. More
Of my hundreds of cherished cookbooks, my old school community cookbooks rank at the top of the class. (Bonus points if written by a Southern Junior League!) I love reading these retro tomes for entertainment, but they are often the first place I turn for new recipe inspiration, as well. More
Plums seem to be the one reminder of late summer in the grocery store these days. That and tomatoes, I suppose. And even more: the plums this year have been incredible. While they're great as a snack, folding them into simple fall desserts and is an obvious choice. They add a soft sweetness to everything from cakes to tarts to pies, and variations and inspiration abounds! More
I always admire the holiday projects Megan at Not Martha comes up with (remember these gingerbread houses that perch on the edge of a mug?). But she's outdone herself this Halloween, with trick-or-treat cookies with, yes, a trick or a treat inside! More
Uh oh, Halloween is upon us! Did it sneak up on you too? While it might be a little too late to come up with a good costume, here's the good news: it isn't too late to come up with a few Halloween treats. And this one is too cute to pass up! More
This will be the second year my boyfriend and I have shared Halloween together. Last year, he raced out to the co-op to buy sugar-free, gluten-free, everything-free lollipops for the kids and I mourned Kit-Kats something fierce. He insists that since we don't buy high-sugar candy the rest of the year, why would we get it to hand out to kids? He believes it's our chance to keep making a statement about the kind of food we care about. Me? I believe in Kit-Kats. More
You're either a DIY candy person or you're not. I tend to shy away from making my own candy because I've had awful luck with brittles and barks. Generally when there's a candy thermometer involved, I find that things go south pretty quickly. However, when a beloved candy is so easy to recreate at home, like these Tootsie Rolls, I'm sold. More
I'll be honest: dirt cake has never really been my thing. Most versions involve pudding filled with fake flavoring, gobs of non-dairy whipped topping and Day-Glo gummy worms — a dream come true for kids or a big crowd of drunk dudes (more on that later), but I need a little more. Like two layers of homemade pudding, one lightly salted peanut butter, the other dark chocolate, that together taste like the grown up version of a Reese's peanut butter cup, sandwiched between two layers of crumbled cookie. And because it's Halloween, and this is still a dirt cake, it's topped with a fun mini graveyard, made with Nutter Butter cookies and whipped cream ghosts. More
Here's a quick little Halloween treat for you! Nothing spooky about these two-bite cookies, just a touch of rich Nutella to indulge your sweet tooth and a drizzle of icing to dress them up in full Halloween style. Guaranteed to appease all the ghosts, goblins, and witches who stop by for a treat. More
Back when I lived in Los Angeles, there was a bustling pancake house down the street from my apartment. The line, filled with too-cool hipsters and skinny models, always wrapped around the corner, but if you were willing to battle the in-crowd it was well worth the wait. It was known for its crazy flavor combinations, like 'Red Velvet PanCAKES' with a cream cheese frosting swirl. (The bloody Mary's weren't half bad either.) More
