It'd be hard to succumb to the winter doldrums if you had such a bright, cheerful plate on your table! Aren't these so fun? NYC-based designer Nicole Porter creates all of her hand-painted beech wood plates, trays, and spoons with a food-safe, non-toxic, zero-VOC paint. I love how the plate design is slightly different from the bowl design, creating an off-kilter mix-and-match when you put them together. More
When I first discovered Industry West, I couldn't bookmark it fast enough. An affordable (!) source for colorful metal dining chairs and stools seemed too good to be true. But for fans of Tolix chairs and industrial machinist stools who can't swing the hefty price tags of those original and vintage versions, Industry West has you covered. More
The Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co is all about wood—not surprising considering its founder is Josh Vogel, the man behind "woody American design" company BDDW. But instead of crafting furniture, Blackcreek Mercantile (which is based in Kingston, New York) focuses on small goods for the kitchen, most notably wooden spoons, cutting boards, and their proprietary-blend cutting board and knife oils. Ever since we looked at American-made housewares on Apartment Therapy last week we've been feeling a bit patriotic. When we profiled Wayfair on Apartment Therapy last week, we immediately recongnized them as a one stop shop for all things home. After digging deeper into their kitchen section, we've now realized they're chef'in amazing for cookware too. More

Who: Young and Kenneth
What: The Winey Neighbor, a boutique wine shop
Where: Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
Sometime last year I noticed work had begun on an empty storefront on Washington Avenue in my neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. My curiosity piqued—Man, please let it be something cool and not another boring real estate office—I was encouraged when I saw a blue and white polka dot awning go up, with a cheeky name: The Winey Neighbor. A wine shop with a sense of humor? Sign me up.
It would still be many months before I'd meet the owners, husband-and-wife duo Kenneth and Young, or attend one of their community wine tastings, or buy a killer bottle of wine (for around $12) based on the type of music it'd pair best with. (We'll get to that). In the meantime I watched the ins-and-outs of construction workers on that storefront, caught glimpses of movement behind the brown-papered windows, and waited for opening day.
