Looking for a seriously tricked-out and colorful mixer with massive power? Hobart, the commercial mixer folks, are offering customized, painted vintage mixers. They have a hefty price tag to match, but these babies can mix. More
Until last week this was the state of the top of our refrigerator – a cluttered eyesore packed with small kitchen appliances that we didn't have room to store elsewhere. Then, in a fit of spring cleaning, we decided we'd had enough. Every small appliance in our kitchen – 13 in all – was subjected to scrutiny with the goal of getting rid of anything we didn't really "need." More
I have a handsome wood pepper mill from Peugeot (like Elizabeth's) that I leave out on the table and use from time to time in the kitchen. But it is one of their smaller models, and I find that I am constantly refilling it. I use large quantities of pepper when cooking (especially when I was testing all those recipes for my my casserole book!) and in those cases I go straight for my old Krups coffee grinder, which now I use exclusively for spices and pepper. Do you love hot pink in the kitchen? Then the new KitchenAid stand mixer color, Raspberry Ice, is definitely for you. Read on to see more of it, and to see the other hot new color that honestly, I like even better. More
I'm pacing the miles (literally miles!) of aisles in Chicago's McCormick Place today and tomorrow, scanning the thousands of products on display at the Home & Housewares Show. Nearly everyone who makes or sells something for the kitchen and the home is here this week, and while there is a lot of useless stuff on display, it's also a pleasure to check out quality products in person. Here's one great product: An update to Chicago Metallic's high-quality toaster oven bakeware line. More
Over the last several years, my husband and I have become rather attached to our SodaStream machine. It gives us a quick burst of bubbly without all the chemical-sounding ingredients that traditional soda pop is laced with.
Everything has been wonderful until we picked up a new CO2 canister from a brick and mortar store and to our surprise — it was empty! More
Q: Last holiday my mom got me a really awesome Rival 3-quart electric fondue pot and since then I've made several types of cheese fondues and some chocolate.
I was wondering if anyone has used it for more than fondue and dips? I'd love to get more versatility out of it. It seems to me I could use it almost as a crock-pot, electric skillet or at least some kind of warmer. Does anyone have experience with this or reasons why I should just ask for more appliances for this holiday?

In the world of stand mixers, there's two different types. Those with a tilting head and those with a bowl that raises and lowers while the head stays still. I've never been much for tilting models, but the process of adjusting both styles is nearly identical. It's easier than you think and will make your appliance last longer and food taste better! More
I was contemplating my microwave the other day as I waited for my coffee to reheat. This is a hulking thing that takes up a fair amount of counterspace, and I've had one in every apartment I've ever lived in. I could get rid of it, sure, but I'm more curious about using it to its full potential. So, please share: how do you use your microwave? More
The LooftLighter makes us feel like we should run around the room pretending to be Harry Potter and yelling "Lumos!" But is it a piece of wizardry, or a silly toy? We are torn. This lighter doesn't use chemicals and would replace every match in your kitchen and camp box — is it worth the price? More
