My first visit to Avedano’s market was in December of 07 when my friend Mimi and I sought them out for our second annual marrowbone holiday feast. When it comes to marrowbones, you see, we wanted the all the buzzwords that Avedano’s offers: organic, sustainable, grass-fed. After all, who wants to eat the marrow of an unhappy, stressed-out, mishandled creature? Not us.
It also helped that Avedano’s is a butcher shop owned by three women. And that they carry the coveted Soul Food eggs. Not to mention bags of wild arugula, cultured butter and icy-cold glass bottles of raw milk found in the cooler. Oh and little cups of Daily Scoop gelato, house-made baby food and tortellini in the freezer, too. More
