Natural and local kitchen tools are the focus of Applewares, a new kitchen store in Park Slope, Brooklyn from the owners of nearby Applewood Restaurant.

Our favorite find in cozy Applewares are the oversized soup mugs made by Brooklyn-based artisans. They also sell a large selection of Lodge cast iron and the new stainless line from Le Creuset.

"We'd grown tired of running to Manhattan every time we needed new equipment for the restaurant, so we figured other folks in the neighborhood probably felt the same," explain the owners on their site. More

Rock out while you cook. We'll be spending even more time in the kitchen now the weather has (finally!) cooled down. Here's an inexpensive way to bring your music into the kitchen: this under-counter iPod player is on Craig's List for $40. It won't take up space on the counter and also includes a radio and a kitchen timer.

We spotted these deals and wanted to pass them along to you right away. Angel Street Thrift Shop, 118 W. 17th Street in Manhattan, has a cart overflowing with second-hand cookbooks and a rack of Leave-It-To-Beaver-style aprons. Most of the cookbooks are under $10.

There were a bunch of Cook's Illustrated cookbook, a Julia Child book or two, and several oldies by The New York Times. Get them while you can. Angel Street is in the center of a thrift shop hot spot.

We don't own a cookbook holder. They've always seemed bulky and unnecessary.

Well, then, this weekend an elbow to an oversized coffee mug left a favorite cookbook soaking in coffee. Ooops, wish we had this simple Lucite cookbook holder. This Craig's List seller has a bunch going for just $10 each.

This week at Thompson Square Farmer's Market, what should have been slim pickings was in greater abundance than ever.

We arrived at 6 pm, expecting picked-over stone fruit and corn with ripped husks, only to find baskets filled to the brim of summer bounty at peak.
