Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I have moved from California to Massachusetts. I decided to take advantage of the outdoors while I could and not dwell on the fact that I don't have my all year round California weather anymore. More
In Ohio and other northern parts of the country (and the world) you should never take nice weather for granted. We are purely indoor creatures for most of the winter and early spring, so the gorgeous early summer has us running outdoors at every opportunity. And the My Great Outdoors event (have you shown us your outdoor space or meal yet?) was a good reminder to go outside to eat, even on a weeknight, with just leftovers on the tray. Just going outside made it special. More
Last week we spent part of the afternoon exploring a new, improved community garden in Harlem. It was a rundown plot of land, but now, thanks to a Herculean renovation by the Food Network, Share Our Strength, and Teich Garden Systems, it's a thriving vegetable and fruit garden where kids from the Children's Aid Society (which has a center across the street) learn about planting, harvesting, and cooking. It's an amazing place to hang out. More

Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I do so much cooking and love fresh veggies that we thought a garden project would be a great idea this year. We've had a fantastic time putting it together and tending it. I'm anxiously waiting to indulge in the fruits of our labor. We've planted asparagus, rhubarb, strawberries, green onions, sugar snap peas, lettuce seeds, basil, tarragon, dill, cilantro, parsley, blueberries, tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, jalapeno...I think that's it! I've harvested at least 60 sugar snap peas already and am enjoying having a great selection of fresh herbs just outside my back door. More

Type of space: Roof garden
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I am lucky enough to have a nice private roof area in New York so I decided to turn it into a garden where I could relax and grow food and plants. I enjoy gardening a lot so the process of making and maintaining the garden is enjoyable on its own. More

Type of space: Garden
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: We decided to rent our current space after falling in love with the spacious back porch and large (albeit overgrown) backyard. We moved in the spring and set out some containers with tomatoes and herbs, which flourished. This year, we have transformed an unruly yard into a healthy and spacious garden. We planted the necessities for spring, summer and fall cooking — herbs, salad greens, plenty of tomatoes for canning, berries for freezer jam, peppers and cukes for pickling and squash and pumpkins! We look forward to our bounty as well as sharing with friends and neighbors. More

Type of space: Balcony
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: My balcony is an extension of my kitchen and home. I have experimented with all kinds of furniture arrangement, surfaces and growing over the past two seasons, and this season I am finally satisfied with the layout and look. Chelsea and I (and Porkchop) enjoy our balcony in the warm months by cooking and relaxing on it as much as we can. When the sliding door is open it as if we have an open air living room and kitchen. It's a great place to share food and drinks with family and friends. More

Type of space: Balcony/terrasse
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: Summer is my favourite season. I originally come from the Canary Islands (Spain) and therefore love whatever related to sun and warm weather. I was always keen to find an appartment with a balcony. I found one with a terrasse. It is my space. My "little island" in this city. More
