Right around the corner from Marc Jacobs and Diane Von Furstenberg is one of my favorite farmers' markets in the city.

Almost every Sunday I make my way to Melrose Place where I have a tamale for breakfast and browse the stands in leisurely search of fresh ingredients around which I'll build a few dinners for the week. The market is not huge. In fact compared to most, it's quite small, but it has a great variety and it never seems to get packed with people pushing carts and strollers. It's refreshing not to have to elbow past people to reach the cauliflower. More

Like heirloom tomatoes and other farmer's market specialty produce, once you've tried black kale, you might not ever want to go back to the more conventional supermarket variety.

Black Kale, also known as Tuscan Kale, Dinosaur Kale, Lacinato Kale, and my favorite, the exotic sounding Cavalo Nero, is a member of the cabbage family. Like mustard greens, collards and mizuma, it is considered a winter green with a season running from late fall through February or so. Black kale's crinkly leaves are dark greenish-purple, almost black in color, they are narrower in shape than regular kale and the stems tend to be a bit thinner. Once cooked, the color darkens even further. It has a chewy texture and a bit of a rich, peppery flavor. More

For an astonishing 103 years the Arnett Family has been operating one of the best farms in California that specializes in oranges.

Arnett Farms, located in Fresno, grows over 200 different varieties of stone fruits, citrus, and berries, as well as apples and persimmons. In addition to navel oranges and tangerines, they are currently selling Satsuma Mandarins, Pink Lady apples, Fuji’s, crisp Asian pears, mild Oro Blanco Grapefruits and sweet, pink-fleshed Cara Cara oranges which taste like an interesting combination of orange, grapefruit, and cherry. In the next few weeks they will be getting one of my favorites - Blood Oranges. More

Just a stone's throw away from the hotel the munchkins stayed in during the filming of The Wizard of Oz, the Culver City Farmers' market is small but has a great selection for whatever it is you might be on the lookout for. Located on Main Street between Culver and Venice, the market has an impeccable selection of hot foods, produce, and more. There is a French Bakery selling sweets and beautiful breads and another stand has fresh pasta. A cart at the end of the street has an amazing selection of cheeses from around the world. Candy's Gourmet Meats offers carne asada, chicken and beef kebobs as well as interesting sausages such as chicken mango, pork jalapeño and rosemary Dijon. A stand called Westcoast Fish regularly stocks fresh fish such as snapper, sand dabs, swordfish, blue nose and white sea bass. You could pick up almost everything you could need to make the most elegant meal. More

Nestled in-between a frozen yogurt shop and a store specializing in exotic birds, Lemon Tree Bungalow is a cluttered paradise of cutesy geegaws, knick knacks, and little lovelies. Just step into the store and it's difficult to walk out empty handed. In addition to books, cards, candles, and fun bath products, the store has a nice little kitchen section that would appeal to any cook or food lover. They carry a cute range of tea towels, pot holders, and retro style aprons. The store features Gloveables' line of fabulous latex dishwashing gloves and Cucina's line of olive oil based lotions and hand soaps, perfect for next to the kitchen sink. More

This has to be one of my all time favorite kitchen appliances. If you don't have one, I highly recommend getting one. Food processors are brilliant for pureeing soups, making spice pastes for a curry or to rub on meats, blitzing your own fresh bread crumbs and even combining the ingredients for a tart crust or pasta dough. This 14 cup Cuisinart is going for just $125. It comes with a whisk attachment as well as a video. The seller is located in Manhattan Beach.

Forget brining. It takes forever and your turkey skin won't get very crisp. Not a good thing. A lot of people insist that frying is the best way to prepare turkeys so that they stay moist and have a beautiful golden brown color. So check out this Electric Turkey Fryer for $80.
