In many ways, I think this is the best time of winter for cooking. There's no holiday pressure. Our guests have all gone home. We have no real obligations at all. Which means that we get to cook exactly what we want, when we want to, and eat at our leisure. If you're at home today, I'd say this is the perfect time to drag out a heavy soup pot, pick some spices, and get something warm and comforting simmering on the back burner. More
It was greens 'n' beans galore this week! Not only did we have that beautiful greens and gruyere tart with its cornmeal-millet crust, but there were braised lentils and chard with an egg, a bright and fresh winter greens pesto, and that vegan sweet potato shepherd's pie. Need some indulgence to balance things out? Don't miss the crispy glazed bacon or the cheesy black-eyed pea dip. So good. More

The rich foods of December leave me with a strong desire to bury my face in a huge bowl of perfect salad all January long. But while the green leaves of spring lettuce are indeed a season off, that doesn't mean my cravings have to wait too. Here, just in time for the January blues, are 15 ways to eat the greens you crave. More
What's on the menu this weekend? We were eating lighter this week, with a quinoa salad tossed with black beans, and a lightened-up dairy-free fish chowder that's still comforting and warm. We made homemade tortilla chips in the oven, and a sweet and savory roast chicken. Don't forget to get your daily Vitamin C in too — how about a Pink Paloma cocktail with grapefruit juice? Juicy and pink! More

Eating less meat, eating more greens, spending less money, cooking more dinners at home ... whatever your New Year's resolution is, chances are it can be helped along with a pot of beans. Soak, cook, and freeze a big batch of beans on the weekend and you'll be ready for simple, nourishing, and budget-friendly meals throughout the week. We're big believers in dessert here on The Kitchn, but there were a few particularly indulgent treats that stood out from this past year. There was that insane banana cake decked out with caramel sauce and those Boston cream pie cupcakes. I'm definitely going to need a big bowl of the coconut chocolate pudding, though the chocolate-flecked skillet blondies are mighty tempting.
