I can't believe I'm going to admit this on the Internet and destroy my green cred, but here goes ... I use paper towels. Not a lot of them, and not every day, but enough to make me feel a bit uncool. More
Rossella's handmade ceramics — which she sells through RossLab, her Etsy store — are just the sort of sweet, simple pieces that make perfect gifts for your mom or sister, or your best friend who's putting you up for a week. It's all in the details: a red scalloped edge on a berry bowl, cream nesting bowls with brilliant teal and purple interiors, a black cream and sugar set with a rim of small white hearts. So pretty! When my husband and I bought our first home, I couldn't wait to stock the kitchen with things I loved, vowing to gradually get rid of low quality tools and gadgets carelessly obtained in college that we continued to use. One of my first purchases was a beautiful, heavy set of brushed stainless steel measuring spoons. More
Q: I enjoy baking desserts that often call for nut flours or ground seeds. I've been using an old metal meat grinder to grind my own flours, which resulted in a nice fluffy flour, but it has not aged well. I have tried using blenders and grinders but generally end up with more of a butter than a flour. Help!

Besides the practical aspects of having your most-used utensils close at hand, I've always loved the look of utensil holders — all those wooden spoons, whisks, and spatulas grouped together in a pretty container. When I see utensils out on display in a kitchen, it's like an informal declaration that the kitchen is well-loved and used. You can store utensils in anything — a mason jar, a vintage vase — but if you want to get fancy about it, here are seven holders that'll steal the spotlight: More
Multi-purpose wire organizers are cheap and easy to come by. You may even have one right now sitting on your desk or holding up books in your child's room. This idea brings that organizer into the kitchen and turns it on its head... well, on its side, actually. More
Rachael Ray didn't invent it, but she did give a memorable name and widespread popularity to one of the kitchen tools I can't cook without: the garbage bowl. Let's take a moment to appreciate this humble workhorse of the kitchen.
I can't ever seem to locate my oven mitts. It seems like such a simple thing: I just used them two seconds ago, and now poof! Oh right, I left them by the sink. No, I must have put them on the chair. Argh! Enough. Clearly I need something like this apron. The bottom half is split into two oven mitts so the wearer always has gloves on hand when needed. Of course, if you misplace the apron... More
Aw, we like sweet stories, and this is a great one: the owner of this Hobart N50 mixer, Matt, wanted to turn it into an awesome gift for his girlfriend. She loves to bake and the couple love San Francisco, so those facts spun into this: a mixer that looks like a San Francisco-style cable car, complete with a gold roof and a working bell!
