While kitchen renovations are usually inspiring and eye-catching, we have to admit it's refreshing to see someone work with a vintage kitchen, and to keep it in such tiptop shape. Nanette and Jonathan's Los Angeles kitchen features old school cabinets, but the kitchen feels so warm and lived in. We particularly like the simple pieces of black fabric that hang from the door frame, and how the space leads out to the deck. It's proof that newer isn't always better! More
This farmhouse kitchen currently resides about 30 miles away from where it started. Yes, that's right! To save it from demolition, the owner of the 1917 farmhouse had it relocated 30 miles away from its original site. It wasn't the smoothest transition, as cracking plaster walls and out-of-commission fireplaces can attest, but that didn't stop BJ and Megan from renting the place! More
What a sweet farmhouse kitchen! Chris, a woodworker, and Erin, a yoga instructor, massage therapist and writer, rent an original farm house in Carlisle, Massachusetts. The home, and the kitchen, have plenty of charm: bare wood ceilings, skinny orange-toned floors, an original soapstone sink, all complemented by the couple's own style, of course! The kitchen seems so lived-in and well set-up. More
Isabel and Claire live in a 1950's ex-local authority apartment in London. When they bought the apartment in 2010 it needed a lot of work, including a new kitchen. It was apparently quite difficult to source the shiny green tiles for the kitchen ("Pavilion Field from Original Style") but worth it in the end. We love how splashy it looks! Alex and Sarah's Los Angeles home is a tribute to their well-traveled life. Their style (described as "world traveling eclectic with a handcrafted modern twist") features lots of texture, pattern, color, natural materials, and ethnic accents. The couple tells Apartment Therapy that friends often remark on the wonderful shade of seafoam green in their kitchen! We're certainly smitten with it. More
Artist and Rare Device store owner Lisa Congdon and her partner Clay Walsh have created a perfect balance in their San Francisco home: Lisa favors vibrant, vintage and collector items, while Clay goes for simple and modern. But as far as the kitchen is concerned, it looks like Lisa's sensibility won out! More
The Viking stove and refrigerator in this San Francisco kitchen may have been the biggest indulgence, but owners Tracey and Jason say that's not what grabs people's attention. "People are drawn to our color choices for the kitchen," they tell Apartment Therapy in this 2010 House Tour, referring to the shades of green paired with black countertops, cream cabinets, and a few splashy red accents. Eli and Jennifer's Brooklyn brownstone features a surprising mix of modern and antique elements, particularly in the kitchen where you'll find exposed brick, a raw brass kitchen faucet (constructed from pieces sourced from a local plumbing supply house), marble countertops, and a wood-burning fireplace! Print designer Marie and her partner Ben live in a light-filled, converted shoe factory in East London. The apartment has an open design, which extends into the IKEA kitchen. The clean, simple look of the kitchen fits the aesthetic of the rest of the apartment, but if you ever thought IKEA was the easy way out, you may want to think again! As Marie tells Apartment Therapy, "we completely underestimated the challenge of assembling and installing the IKEA kitchen by ourselves!" So, even if you love the look (and budget) of IKEA, you may want to get help putting it all together! More
