When you learn you're about to look at a 5,000-square-foot apartment in New York City, you know you're going to see something pretty spectacular. Kris' Upper East Side home doesn't disappoint. From the grand piano to the orange corduroy-covered media room (!), it's all part of Kris' style: "a mix of classic modern silhouettes paired with unexpected statement pieces either from (or inspired by) the 70s and 80s." His kitchen fits this description, too! See more photos below: More
Stephen "Scuba" Clark is a resourceful handyman. His Phoenix home is full of upgrades and projects he's done himself... with his friends! As he tells Apartment Therapy, all of his friends have "great style and uniqueness" and every project was done with their help. This includes the leather cabinet pulls in the kitchen! This serene, lovely kitchen is elegance itself. Part of a palatial duplex in Back Bay, Boston, and featured in this Apartment Therapy House Tour back in 2011, the home is full of polished marble, hand-painted Chinoiserie walls, chandeliers, and secret rooms. We love the kitchen, though, particularly the warm grey walls, white marble countertops, and wood floors. More
I've always loved Victoria Smith's (of sfgirlbybay) personal style. She calls it "bohemian modern" but there's a lot of black and white, a lot of wood. Her new rental kitchen is the perfect example: the wood cabinets are nothing fancy — they look like basic contractor-grade cabinets — but she really made it work by creating a strong, neutral palette around it. Of course, plenty of light doesn't hurt! See more photos below: More
How lovely would it be to cook in this kitchen, with the lake and a grove of pine trees out your window and plenty of light streaming through the skylights? Not to mention those beautiful deep-red cabinets and wood all around you: antique oak floors, recycled barn-board walls, pine ceiling planks. The owners say the house is "magic," and we believe it. Most German apartment rentals come without much of anything in the kitchen, not even appliances or cabinets. So Sara and Mads, the owners of this Berlin kitchen, installed everything themselves and created a kitchen out of nothing. The result is a charming mix of vintage accessories and flea market discoveries. See more photos below: More
How great is this family cubby area? It looks like it should be in an entryway or a living room, but it's actually right in the middle of a beautiful, historic Boston kitchen. See more photos below: More
This loft kitchen in Tribeca, New York was made for entertaining. In 1910 Andrew Carnegie built a library in Mill Valley, California, one of 2,500 libraries he would build throughout his lifetime. Fifty years later it was converted into a private home, and since then has been remodeled dozens of times. But the latest reinvention may have gotten it just right: one of the rooms is now this stunning modern kitchen! How gorgeous is the slate grey paired with all that wood and brick? There's something about this kitchen that inspires "visions of cottage life, cozy book reading, and a shabby chic seasoned life," as Apartment Therapy put it in this 2011 House Tour. The vintage kitchen cabinets remain untouched, and they infuse the space with such a warm, old-world feeling. What a treat! See more photos below: More
