There were a few elements that really drew my eye to this kitchen. Was it the patterned cement tile wall? The turquoise island? The brass cabinet pulls? It definitely has a Moroccan flavor to it—with the saturated colors and patterns—but the white marble countertop and light blue tiles keep the space airy, and not too dramatic!
MoreEmily and Ian really wish they could renovate their Austin kitchen, but alas, they're renters. So the next best thing is to paint it a vibrant shade of blue!
"I always say that if my husband decorated the place, everything would be grey, metal and glass!" says Amy in this recent Apartment Therapy House Tour. We definitely see her husband's influence in their chic industrial-eco kitchen, but Amy — who gravitates toward a "vintage 70s, rock'n'roll vibe and layers of pattern and texture" — has a say in it, too. (Look at the rug!) The result is a modern, clean kitchen that feels stripped of excess yet still warm and inviting. See more photos below:
MoreLauren Moffat, a New York-based women's wear designer, has a sharp creative eye and strong sense of style. Her 1,600-square-foot Upper East Side apartment is quite spacious and comfortable, with a lovely kitchen. High ceilings, original wood floors, and plenty of natural light give the space a quiet, easy feeling. See another photo below:

Andy is from New York and Matt is from Alabama. Despite their varying backgrounds, when they moved in together they were able to combine their love "of all things tattered and weathered with a hint of whimsy." The kitchen has a definite Mid-Century-Modern vibe, with a little "slightly haphazard, Deco-centric eclecticism" thrown in, as Matt told Apartment Therapy in this recent House Tour. More
Mary Lee's Austin apartment is only 300-square-feet, but that hasn't stopped her from making the most of it — particularly in the kitchen. Look at all that artwork! It transforms the space. Marianne loves vintage and mixing new and older things. As she tells Apartment Therapy in this recent House Tour, "I like to be playful, and I love colour." Her Melbourne kitchen has a very 1950s and early 1960s vibe. It's sweet and charming, from the hanging herb pots to the eclectic candy-colored accessories. See more photos below: More
If you didn't look closely, you might miss the surprising detail that makes this kitchen look twice as big as it actually is. When I first saw the photo, I didn't see the double sinks, and I thought it was odd to have a photo sticking out of the middle of the cabinets. Then I noticed the white floorboard, and the fact that everything was doubling, not extending, and it suddenly became a very smart optical illusion for a small kitchen! Matt's country home — on 5 acres of land just outside of Austin — is a welcome, modernist retreat with high ceilings, an open floor plan, and interior entertaining spaces that flow naturally out to the covered patio and outdoor fireplace. An avid cook, Matt splurged on his gas range and the kitchen table, but it was worth it. As he tells Apartment Therapy, living for years in a tiny apartment made him "crave a functional kitchen and an open space to entertain." See more photos below: More
