I'll be honest: dirt cake has never really been my thing. Most versions involve pudding filled with fake flavoring, gobs of non-dairy whipped topping and Day-Glo gummy worms — a dream come true for kids or a big crowd of drunk dudes (more on that later), but I need a little more. Like two layers of homemade pudding, one lightly salted peanut butter, the other dark chocolate, that together taste like the grown up version of a Reese's peanut butter cup, sandwiched between two layers of crumbled cookie. And because it's Halloween, and this is still a dirt cake, it's topped with a fun mini graveyard, made with Nutter Butter cookies and whipped cream ghosts. More
It comes but once a year. Oh yes. Once a year you're allowed to delve into the dark, twisted part of your mind and come up with something that'll scare the bejeesus out of people. As mentioned, I'd rather stick with friendly ghosts, but I'm not one to keep anyone else away from the creep! These 10 Halloween recipes are sufficiently spooky (yet albeit, pretty clever!) food ideas for your Halloween party. More
This may be the easiest and quickest way to spook up your kitchen for Halloween: turn your refrigerator into a ghost!
Jean from Jean's Crafty Corner came up with this idea. All you need are two large sheets of black foam and a couple circle magnets. Draw out a desired shape, cut, stick on magnets, and voila! A little Halloween fun for your fridge. More

You guys — it's pumpkin season! Does this excite you? Has the Great Pumpkin arrived at your house this autumn? Are you ready for pumpkin pie? Of course, pumpkin has so much more to offer than just pumpkin pie. Take baked pumpkin steel-cut oatmeal, for instance — a fall dish I look forward to every year. Or soft, cakey pumpkin spice cookies, and pumpkin soup with coconut milk. What about pumpkin rice Krispie treats, and hot pumpkin buttered rum? Are these on your fall menu yet? Cran-walnut pumpkin bread? A French pumpkin bake? Take a look at these, and others — each recipe a tribute to the scrumptious range of possibilities in pumpkin. More
Back when I lived in Los Angeles, there was a bustling pancake house down the street from my apartment. The line, filled with too-cool hipsters and skinny models, always wrapped around the corner, but if you were willing to battle the in-crowd it was well worth the wait. It was known for its crazy flavor combinations, like 'Red Velvet PanCAKES' with a cream cheese frosting swirl. (The bloody Mary's weren't half bad either.) More
Confession: I am not the world's #1 Halloween fan. Call me a wimp, but I just don't do well with scary things, even if I know they're fake. So while I applaud the ingenuity of the spooky foods showing up all over the internet right now, they also sufficiently creep me out and thus keep me out of the kitchen. But these homemade cheese crackers, courtesy of our friend Olga from Sassy Radish, are just my kind of Halloween treat: more cute than scary. Friendly ghosts! Plump pumpkins! Benign bats! (Well, at least I'm determining they are.) More
So you've scooped all the slimy, messy insides out of your pumpkins. Whatever you do, save the seeds! Roasted pumpkin seeds are a great fall snack, and a healthy break from all of your Halloween candy. Here are few ideas for making the most of your Halloween pumpkin seeds. More
It's that time of year again when we get to throw costume parties, eat copious amounts of store-bought snack size candy, and dress inappropriately — all in the name of Halloween. Halloween happy hours can be as serious or sweet as you like them. A few years back, as a guest on NBC's TODAY show, I had the chance to sip and shake with the authentic George Lucas-endorsed Yoda, Chewbacca and C-3PO, which for sci-fi nerds is about as serious as Halloween can get. Each year NBC's TODAY pulls out all the stops for the Halloween show, so it was no wonder the drinks followed suit. More
It's fall, and time to indulge my love of all things pumpkin. Pumpkin pasta, pumpkin gratin, pumpkin pie, that ever-popular pumpkin spice latte and — perhaps most of all — pumpkin muffins. I love having a warm, tender muffin in the morning for breakfast. These fit the the bill, spiced and moist. But fall will be over so quickly, and winter will be here, so I decided to make sure these would carry through properly to the holidays! Why not a little swirl of eggnog-flavored cream cheese? Pumpkin and eggnog? This is one clash of holiday flavors that I love, and I hope you will too! More
