We're gearing up for fall around here, dreaming up new ideas and recipes. One thing we'd like to do a little more of is food for kids. We've noticed a big response from our readers in the past when we've talked about food for toddlers and tips for cooking with your kids, and of course cooking for little ones can be such an important part of cooking at home! Happy Labor Day from The Kitchn! This is a holiday that has been around since 1882, when the Central Labor Union of New York City decided it would be good to create "a day off for the working citizens." We've posted many, many small and inspiring kitchens in this year's event, and now is your chance to mark (and save) your favorites! There are just 36 a few hours left before the finalists are chosen and we move on to final voting. You have until Thursday at 11:59pm to choose your favorites. Finalists will be announced on Friday!
Due to an overwhelming amount of entries and response to Small Cool Kitchens 2012 we have decided to extend entry posting until Tuesday July 31. Favoriting on all entries will be extended to 11:59pm EST Thursday August 2.
Finalists will be announced Friday August 3, and voting on finalists will follow through the weekend and end 11:59pm EST Monday August 6. The winner will be announced Tuesday, August 7.

As editors of The Kitchn, we receive a lot of products for editorial consideration: Small kitchen gadgets, cookbooks, jars of specialty ingredients. Our closet is overflowing, and it's time for us to declutter, so I'm putting together mystery boxes of goodies for our readers. Two lucky readers will get a Kitchn mystery goodie box this month. We're getting reports that The Kitchn's RSS feeds are not working properly for some readers. Also, some are seeing double posts in their feeds. This appears to be a problem with Google Reader specifically for people subscribed to the old URL for our RSS feed (which redirects to our new URL). Until we can figure out what is happening on Google's side, we recommend you unsubscribe from the old feed and subscribe directly to the new URL, which seems to fix the problem.
