I haven't traveled abroad in almost two years now — life just gets in the way sometimes. But my partner and I have been saving for a trip (hopefully this fall). While we both have different tastes in travel locations and haven't nailed down anything yet, I do know one thing for sure: there will be peanut butter. This is a lesson that's taken me many years to learn.
Everyone knows about birthday cake for breakfast, and we used to beg our mom to let us chase it with morning ice cream too. But what if a frozen treat at breakfast wasn't an indulgence, but instead a healthy snack to grab and go? Meet the breakfast popsicle.
MoreLately I've been spending weekends in a house upstate that I'm sharing with my friends Hilary and Al. Deciding to share the house with them was a no-brainer: lovely people, great style, a kind and gentle son for Ursula to hang out with, fabulous British accents, and a killer house. What I didn't know until arriving for our first weekend was that Al makes bread every Friday night for toast on Saturday morning. I totally scored.
MoreFile this under foods to try next winter. During my one-year stint in Scandinavia, this is an absolute favorite food combination I picked up. Never had I tasted these two rich but seemingly-opposed flavors together. But one fateful evening in Sweden, I was offered thin, crisp gingersnaps smeared with blue cheese alongside a glass of glogg. It seemed weird to me only for that split second between the offer and the first bite. Ever since, it's been a perfect combo in my book:

Grilling can seem like a lot of hard work if you are not in-the-know. Growing up in the South, I spent most of my youth presuming it was a man's activity — all of those 'secrets' and 'rituals' seemed best left alone by the ladies. And while, yes, when it comes to charcoal grills, smokers, and Big Green Eggs, there can be a certain amount of finesse involved, the actual act of cooking over fire doesn't have to be engulfed in a shroud of mystery. With this fabulous chicken recipe, grilling can be for everyone!

Q: I recently returned from a trip to Turkey, along with 250g of Turkish coffee (about 2 cups). I have an ibrik and love making Turkish coffee, but wondered if there was anything else I could do with it considering how finely ground it is. Thoughts on recipes?

MoreDid you go to summer camp as a kid? I didn't, but just last week I learned that it's never too late when I boarded a bus full of strangers and embarked on an adventure complete with campfires, bunk beds, and hands-on workshops. It was a life-changing experience, accompanied by the taste of fragrant mountain conifers.
MoreIt doesn't often get swelteringly hot in Seattle. Even in the heart of the summer, we'll have a few record-setting days, but rarely more than a handful. But when I visit my mom's cabin in upstate New York, the marriage of heat and humidity can often make for pretty uncomfortable days and a loss of appetite — which is why we always have this cool, easy yogurt dip at the ready.
MoreHave you had Thai- and Vietnamese-style iced coffee? A combination of strong black coffee, sweetened condensed milk, and plenty of ice makes these drinks a refreshing change from your standard brew. From Girl Versus Dough, here's a frozen version topped with toasted coconut. What a treat!
