We've been talking about the West coast, and now we're going all the way east: Boston! Markets, artisans, farms, and groceries: Where do you shop in Boston? What are the must-taste spots for food-loving visitors? If a visitor was going to take home a food souvenir from this city, where would you suggest they buy it? More

2009-07-02-Savenors.jpgIf you're throwing a swanky dinner and want a spread that will really impress your guests, Savenor's in Boston is the place to go. We had just such a party in the works, so we decided to indulge our curiosity about the famous Boston landmark and go on a shopping spree. More

2009-06-11-Penzeys.jpgIf you've only ever ordered from Penzeys Spices online and have never been to a brick-and-mortar store, we highly recommend seeing if there's one in your area. For home cooks like us, visiting the store was like being a kid in a candy shop! More

Chicken coop flew the coop2009_05_21-FarmThumbs.jpgWe've always harbored a secret, and likely quite idealized, fantasy of one day working on a farm. Until that day comes, we can get a tiny taste for what it might be like at Drumlin Farm, a working farm and wildlife sanctuary run by the Massachusetts Audubon just outside of town in Lincoln. We headed over there a few weekends back to check it out. More

2009-04-16-BostonFishing.jpgBostonians, you don't have to travel far from home if you'd like to do a little fishing this summer! Many lakes and ponds right in the city are annually stocked with fish by the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife - all you need is a fishing pole, some bait, and a license. Do you have a favorite Boston-area fishing hole? More

2009_04_01-ScaliBread.jpgIt's pronounced "skah-lee" bread, and unless you grew up in Boston, there's a good chance you've never heard of it! Credit for this soft sesame-sprinkled loaf goes to the Italians who settled into Boston's North End, where it's still sold and enjoyed as a daily bread. Are you a fan of scali bread? More

02_27_Katin2.jpgSomehow we've managed to live in Boston for over seven years without ever making it to Marblehead. Only a short 45-minute meandering drive from the city, this quaint seaside town is stunning — even in winter — and Katin & Brandon's lovely home made for a wonderful welcome. Of course we just happened to arrive while Katin was reducing vinegar so our first impression of their cozy, sun-drenched cape-style house was one filled with apologies for the unflattering aroma...

2008_09_18-CityFeed.jpgIn an era almost bereft of "local" grocery stores, we are so excited that City Feed and Supply has opened up a second location on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain! More details after the jump... More

2008_08_15-McKinnons1.jpgWe were on a quest for boneless beef short ribs for a recipe that we had to make. (You know how it is.) We'd tried Stop & Shop, Whole Foods, and the slightly sketchy grocery down the street, and we were starting to get desperate.

Then a friend suggested McKinnon's in Davis Square. We walked in, and in about five minutes, we'd found exactly what we needed...and a whole lot more! More
