LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: We had to work with a tight budget and an awkward floorplan (the bathroom is off the kitchen!) yet it's easily one of our fave rooms in the apartment. It's cozy and fun but also very functional. It made us work together with what we had to make it work for us.

WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: The fact that we designed it from scratch and then we saw it come to life. The colours used, the efficient cabinets, the bar and the actual position in regards to the rest of the house: direct access to the living room and the dining room.

NAME: Nehalem
LOCATION: Fort Collins, CO
SIZE: 88 square feet
WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: Our remodeled kitchen is super functional and, despite its size, has churned out huge wedding cakes, dinner for 100+ and a weekly batch of breakfast burritos. We love how all of the materials complement eachother: soapstone, glass tile, maple, stainless and marmoleum.

NAME: Marguerite
LOCATION: Cambridge, MA
SIZE: 60 square feet
WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: An apartment that smells like last night's soup? A fridge that froze veggies and emitted the sustained buzz of cicadas? A gap above the cabinets that trapped dust and grease? These are just a few features that were NOT cool about our kitchen before we renovated it. (See "before" shot in black and white.)

Now, my kitchen is the coolest because aside from being beautiful it is a pleasure to use whether it be rolling out pizza dough on the soapstone counters, chopping veggies on my giant butcher block or simmering a stew in my 7-quart Dutch oven.
