WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: One of the coolest things about our kitchen is its history. Our second floor studio apartment is in a giant house built in 1904 and what is now our window-filled kitchen was formerly a sleeping porch. Our neighborhood is filled with large trees and that is all you can see when you look out of the windows.

WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: We just finished a renovation and we love it. We opened up the kitchen to the living room and our small kitchen now feels very large. We increased the storage by installing cabinets to the ceiling, added an island to increase the counter top space, moved the sink so there is counter space next to the oven, raised the counters to make it more comfortable to prep food and designed the space to flow with our living room.

WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: 1. The small size makes it easy and quick to put dishes away. 2. The small size allows for a bolder statement since there is so little of it (black cabinets). 3. The small space gives my barber husband excuses to "bump" into me or sneak in a grope as he squeezes past me (this is the best reason of all).

WHY MY SMALL KITCHEN IS COOL: Even though it's tiny, it's totally functional and enjoyable to use! When I remodeled, I made a lot of eco-friendly and healthy choices. I refaced the cabinets, installed ceramic tile floors, sourced the stove and dishwasher used off Craigslists, and installed the pendant lights - all myself and at 22 years old!
